I will reach Chiang mai on 15 to 17 dec and i let to look for some budget hotel that cost below 1000 baht , any to recommend ?

Veerachai Court. Soi Song Thae Pae. They have aircon rooms with hot shower, toilet, UBC Satelite TV and two beds, phone, plus some furniture for 500 Baht in the old part (I like that one better) or 650 Baht in the new section. No Pool, but good value in my opinion. Close to Night Bazaar and downtown. Within walking distance of both.

There is also the Prince Hotel, which has older, but fair teak rooms and a pool that is well kept. Probalby around 600 or 700 Baht per night. Also close to downtown and they have a poolside restaurant that offers food and drinks for not too expensive.

We usually stay at Veerachai.

There is also Top North, which is popular with many travellers, but personally, it is a little too busy for me.

I walked around the backpacker ghetto area near MoonMuang today and there are 100s of small hotels and guest houses that have rooms.

In December, some are booked for certain days, but have rooms on other days.

The nicest small hotel and staff that I encountered today was at Bow Chiang Mai House at 15 soi 9 Moonmuang Road. Nice and clean with air con, hot water and cable TV. 500 baht with openings for many days in December. tel# 053 211707 053 418890 fax# 053 418890

The folks at Kavil House (guest house) were civil too with cheap, fan rooms near AUA language school. Tel.# 053 224 740

I just came back from a three night stop over in Chiang Mai. Because of the flower festival it was impossible to get a hotel room in the city for three nights. I spent an hour at the hotel reservations desk in the airport and the poor guy must have phoned all hotels in the city and still failed to get us a room. Eventually we ended up at the newly opened Center Park, way out of town adn a rela pain to get to/from. Guest houses migh tbe easier, though I tried and still failed. The flower festival runs till 31-Jan so I recon rooms will continue to be hard to get till nearer that date.

I would guess that if one just walked around the guesthouse areas one would have a room within 10 minutes on most days.

I had no problem finding one yesterday, but they did mention that they all are booked out quite a few days in December.
