PHUKET: -- The driver of a BMW sedan said he lost control of his car due to the rain-soaked road in the early hours of this morning (Aug 2), causing his car to slam sideways into a roadside streetlight.

Capt Kraisorn Boonprasop of the Thalang Police was notified of the accident, near the Tha Ruea Shrine on Thepkrasattri Rd south of the Heroines Monument, at 2:30am.

Police arrived with Kusoldharm rescue workers to find a BMW that had struck a roadside streetlight sideways.

The driver, Pichet Thongtongkaew, 30, suffered a minor head injury.

Of his two passengers, Pichet Nualchuay, 33, suffered a broken left leg and Thanawit Salam, 21, suffered only minor injuries.

Naughty road, did the police give it a fine ?

here we go again and again and again - blame someone/something other than the person that actually is to blame....in this case the driver

Do Thais ever ever take responsibility for their actions.............ever ?

The Wet Road excuse.

Nothing uniquely Thai about that one...its used the world over.

The other predictable response at 02:30:

I only had 2 beers.

As ClutchClark indicated, used the world over...  Certainly not unique to Thailand.

If TV ponds us a thread each time a driver loses control we are not out of the woods...

Imagine the carnage if they had snow, black ice or thick fog in the LOS.......

Well it makes a change from" Brakes failed",

the usual excuse when a Thai crashes a car

or a bus, never their fault, they have never been

taught how to drive properly and within limits

of the conditions.

regards worgeordie

Interesting- I was driving in very heavy rain the other day and managed to survive. Why- because I SLOWED DOWN in accordance with the conditions. Somchai continued to overtake though.

Lucky there wasn't a bend in the road and rain, how would they choose which was to blame then?

Ever notice...speed NEVER has anything to do with it.

If he's such an incompetent driver..... then a minor head injury may do him some good. If the roads wet you drive safely you idiot !

Frankly, I don't think it's so much the driver's fault.

More, of those who gave him a driver's licence.
