I am familiar with C M as regards cheap hotels, but don't have a clue about cheap long term accomodation. For cheap, read under 10,000 a month. In Pattaya I had a great room for 5,000 a month.

I'd like to live somehere within walking distance of the moat, preferably on the west or south side, but along the river would also be an option.

Obviously I am referring to Thai accomodation options, not farang places.

Any reasonable suggestions gratefully received.

Thank you.

You're pretty much describing the apartment buildings popular with long term visitors, such as Smith Redisdence, Home in Town, Veerachai Court and others.   Cheap apartments are actually all over the old town too, well inside your budget, although they may have a 3 month (or more) minimum.   The aforementioned ones don't have a minimum stay.

what you do is walk around where you want to live ,look for big buildings with many aircon units-those are probably appartments.some gh's and hotels also have special longterm prices.i have a friend renting a studio near the train station for 2500.

You can also get a nice condo with a pool for 6000 baht .   Min. 12 months contract . I just had a look at it the other day.   Location opposite Lanna golf course. PM me for details.

Many of the older Condo blocks like PP can be had for B5 k or less

I agree , but this is a new one , built last year, and with a small balcony .  I br condo for 6k is really cheap . So you can make good deals if you look for it.

Thanks everyone for all the good advice. I didn't realise that places were so much cheaper than Pattaya.

Re the condo, I don't know that I'd want to stay in C M a whole year. I'd like to eventually get down to live somewhere by the sea, but thanks anyway. All advice is good, if not for me then someone else that reads this.
