Hello,

I want to bring my daughter (7 months old) and my Thai girlfriend to Ireland for Christmas this year. My daughter will be travelling with her own Irish passport and I would like to know if her mother will require a visa to enter the country. I was under the impression she certainly would need one however upon visiting the embassy website it appeared to suggest that family members of EU nationals do not require a visa to enter Ireland. Can anyone she some light on this? If this was the case how could she possibly prove she was the mother to an immigration officer.  Thanks in advance and I apologise if this question has been asked a million times.

She cannot boarding without a visa. Beside that the right of free movement for the family members is only valid in special circumtances in the home country of the eu citizen.

Your girlfriend will require a visa to visit you in Ireland.

To exercise the right of free movement she would need to be visiting a country within the EU other than the one of which the family member is a citizen.
