A few years ago I suffered an extremely high temperature flight on Etihad. I suspected there were/are rules concerning flight cabin temperatures, and wrote to Thai Visa in the hope someone would know said rules and how I should go about claiming compensation for Etihad breaking said rules. However, I received no effective information in any of the replies. In fact some of the replies pointed to the writers either not reading my post properly, or not understanding my very basic English. Despite not being given any clues as to go about complaining I did so using the very little knowledge I had, and Etihad admitted liability but only offered 20000 guest miles as compensation. I considered the offer to be too low, but accepted it because other forum users indicated that they thought Etihad could not be held responsible, and I was making a fuss over nothing. After accepting said offer I received an answer from another travel forum I had written to.Said reply informed me that he had made the exact complaint to Etihad, and they had offered him 20,000 air miles, but knowing his rights did not accept said offer, and ended up accepting 60,000 air miles and a free upgrade on his next flight

Are you a member of the Etihad Guest programme? Quite often the levels of compensation vary based on whether the complainer is a member and, if so, the membership level. If the other passenger was, say, at the Platinum level a higher level of compensation may well be the outcome.

In my experience such issues happening during a flight can sometimes be resolved by the crew. One that comes to mind is when the IFE failed on a BA flight and a form was passed to the passengers during the flight with a request to indicate their  FF number stating that 10,000 miles would be offered as compensation for the breakdown.

In any event, should you not be a FF member, well done to Etihad for arranging some level of compensation as many airlines would just ignore such a complaint.

I am a FF member, but only silver.

Would the airlines you made reference to ignore complaints if passengers required medical treatment or died due to excess heat......Let me guess your answer

"if a person cannot withstand temperature over 90 f for several hours then they should not fly"

So let us get this straight, you THOUGHT there were rules regarding flight temperatures, so you wrote to THAI VISA, not the airline. You then say that Etihad were breaking the rules, yet you did not know for sure there were any such rules.

I can almost guarantee that Etihad did not admit liability.

You sir, are the whinge bag of the month.

Rather difficult to answer your point as I must have missed the press report of the Etihad flight, or indeed flights of any other major airline,  where 'passengers required medical treatment or died due to excess heat'. A link would be good. Thanks.

Not sure why you should wish to guess my response. Perhaps you did that with your complaint to Etihad and the conversation took a wrong turn from there. Whereas the other passenger may have been a bit more diplomatic and, as a result,  achieved a better outcome. Just a thought.

I know you will claim that the exert from the Etihad letter below does not admit liability, but it would stand up in a court (most judges) as an admission, and objective thinkers would take it as an admission

We have received a report from our Head of Line Maintenance regarding your flight which advised that the sensors for the aircraft were found to be contaminated and giving false readings to the zone controller. The result was that the valves were venting warm air into the area of the cabin that you were seated in. We appreciate that this temperature may not have been as comfortable as you or indeed we would have liked however, we have not received any reports that there was a lack of oxygen during the flight.

I never said there was a medical emergency, what i will say is the temperatures suffered could have caused harm to weak/old/sick/very young passengers

Right. So you were on a flight that had a malfunction to the air vents resulting in a warmer than normal cabin. However, there were no medical emergencies, even to weak/old/sick/very young passengers.

You complained to Etihad and they responded with the reason for the over heated cabin and offered a level of compensation which you accepted.

Seems your main gripe is that another passenger was apparently a better negotiator. Tough, but don't beat yourself up about it.:)

My main gripe is/was that I wrote to Thai Visa in order to receive help/advice and there was none. As a matter of interest if you were on a plane and one of the  engines failed due to lack of maintenance causing a dangerous landing, but nobody was hurt ...would you support the airline

LOL, you wrote on a Thailand expats forum complaining about a technical issue on a commercial airliner - and then have the audacity to complain that you did not get the answers to your questions.

Priceless.

If you want to debate you should answer the points made, make a rational arguments, and apologize when you make mistakes. After lying implicating that i have lied about a certain point; when in fact I have been truthful, you should say sorry when evidence is shown of my truthfulness. Also you should refrain from insults, and instead make truthful points with evidence to help you convince people who are not already singing from your music sheet

Really not sure where I said or implied that you lied?

Maybe this was a reply to a different thread, because if makes absolutely zero sense here.

I stated Etihad had admitted liability for the faulty temperature sensors , in answer you wrote

"I can almost guarantee that Etihad did not admit liability."

Now if I could not supply evidence that Etihad had admitted liability then to you and others it would be assumed that I had lied

is there a reason why you call yourself "gagged free thinker"

Because on this board I am not allowed to post certain thoughts (not illegal under Thai Law and not in violation of board rules) and got into conflict with a moderator over being of a different opinion, and he effectively gagged me by giving me a suspension.

So it took the OP a few years of complaining to get 20k miles as an indemnity for suffering a too high temperature travelling on an Etihad plane.

How interesting.

can I return sleeping now?

The OP clearly has some issues. We should not mock him.

It has certainly not ever taken me years to get satisfaction for poor service from a service provider. Though it did take a few months to get Alitalia to cough up 600€ for a delayed flight.

You didn't see me here creating a thread about it. Why he felt the need to post it here, I have no idea...

First to tartempion who said it took me a few years to get compensation......who told you that? Concerning his lack of interest, well he would seem to be lying, after all he went to the trouble of answering. Anyway it should be interesting to people who have suffered with etihad and want compensation to know if they do not accept the first compensation offer they might end up getting a lot more.

Replying to Jiu Jitsu :I am not afraid of being mocked, but I suggest the people who mock should think a little, read the info in my post,  stop miss quoting me, and should use evidence to mock instead writing insults, lies, and rubbish

Jiu Jitsu this is an air travel forum....why not write about air travel problems on it????

I am now finished with this subject on this site. I will now see the reaction on to this subject on other air travel forums, and will return to Thai Visa in a few weeks time

You wrote: "A few years ago I suffered an extremely high temperature flight on Etihad....." So why are you writing about it today??

Thailand Travel

Thailand Travel Forum

It's not an "air travel forum". it's a Thailand Travel Forum.

Starting some random thread years after the fact, that appears to have no relation to Thailand, might not attract much in the way of interest.

My 600€ was connected to a flight to/from Brazil....not Thailand.
