Do you cook and clean for yourself? Can you?

Do you cook and clean for yourself?

Can you cook and clean and wash your own clothes?

I say both because especially here in Thailand it is affordable to have washing cleaning and eating out done regularly

I was astonished when a guy on another thread said he had never done washing in his life. Not once..!

I could cook, clean and do the washing by age 18...a skill that was not universal for men back then but seems ever increasing in western society. For me it was basic independence

Is it possible to get by in life without knowing how to cook and do your own washing?

I have been doing it for years, certainly since I was in the military where they taught me skills similar to this. I used to be able to sew and do my own clothing repairs by my eyesight is getting worse even with glasses. I do the laundry for me, my wife and son and I also iron his school clothes.

There is no shame in being able to look after yourself, your family and the house.

I also make a lot of my own western food here in rural Khampaeng Phet.

I am 72, retired with plenty of time to do thing the way I want them done.

If a guy cannot do his own cooking, cleaning, washing, there is something far wrong, I would say I am good with them all.

Maybe this is for another topic, but I cannot do any manual work of any sort, I have tried, but I am just hopeless, I always need to pay someone if the wife cannot do it.

Yeah - I did for years before here & raising a Daughter from 3 months of age by myself......

Before I got married here I'd had a maid/mae baan come in once a week to clean & iron - I hate ironing so to me the other house cleaning services were a bonus, anything above the ironing.....The house was never dirty when she arrived; but was cleaner when she left.....

1st thing my wife did was to cut her loose.....

Now married, as/and the kids (girls) have gotten older I've got 3 of them basically looking after of all of us......

I do the BBQ'ing & western cooking (teaching as we go) along with the "guy" stuff - cars, repairs, etc. & let them do the rest.....

There's a bit of of Thai dutiful female pride as well as Yankee stubbornness involved in the mix -but somehow it all works out......

Usually all in good humor......

Such are the foibles of life......

If I were to become single again I'd find a cuter mae baan.....

Think many of us guys in our past life had to do it as our chore.....Would your bird do it....If not why...?

Not really the same is it?

Eating and wearing clothes are basic necessities of life.
Owning a vehicle is a luxury item.

But like asking if i or my girl can program Apps, fix and maintain computers and smartphones....

Would she do it if she was shown how or needed to? Yes

Your are a rich guy then.........So you never got under your ride to do the basic stuff or ask your lady to do it.   ...?

Every second weekend I check the air pressure in the tires.

The woman is too busy cleaning and cooking to be involved in vehicle maintenance.

So now you are a bit older and pay a little cash for Thai folk to do it...Same as me, NOW, but in my past life my job was to take care of the house, ride etc, whilst she did the washing stuff....BUT, if you have always been a hi-so then brilliant....

If I was not at work from sun up till sundown 5 days a week I would consider doing it myself but it is far to easy to drive my vehicle straight into the workshop in the morning and have my technicians take care of anything that needs to be sorted.

I sew on my own buttons, do the ironing and babysit the Thai neighbors kids when the parents are late at work.  Any important events for the village I'm asked to cook the rice.  Everyone asks me for my ya dong recipe where I get the crabs for my som tom.  At 16 years of age I was a single handed ocean racer.

I can do that...stitching

Incidentally...i don't iron. I can iron. I used to iron. I dont iron anymore.

Why do some people iron their jocks?

ironing is overrated…how many times have you thrown on a shirt only to see it develop wrinkles within 5 minute of waving your arms to flag down a songthaew?

Best to wear it fresh out off the clothesline, still smelling of Comfort, and let it adhere to the natural lines of your torso.
