CHIANG MAI: -- The Doi Suthep-Pui national park shuts down its Tad Mok waterfall in Tambon Mae Ram of Mae Rim district, Chiang Mai province for safety reason today following heavy rainfall last night in the mountainous area upstream.

National park chief Kritsayam Kongsatree said he ordered the shut down of the waterfall in the Doi Suthep-Pui national park after the current in the waterfall turned muddy following heavy downpour in the mountainous areas, indicating of possible flashfloods.

All visitors to the waterfall were also advised to leave for safety reason until the situation returns normal.

He said it was still unknown when the waterfall would be opened again, pending the assessment of the latest situation.

The Northern Meteorological Centre reported continual rainfalls covering 70% of the northern region and warned people of danger from flashfloods, particularly in Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phrae, and Nan.

Tad Mok after heavy rains is always awesome.  Other times it is just a pleasant retreat with few visitors during the week when the solitude is almost worth the entrance fee.
