Police and Army get to grips with Samui island beach clean-up

 

 

SAMUI: -- The police in Koh Samui have teamed up with the army and security forces to clean up the island. Currently they are focussing on clearing the footpaths of signs that may impede pedestrians and removing permanent fixtures encroaching onto the King’s beach land.

 

During the clean-up shop signs, seating and displays are being removed from the pavements to make the island saver for everybody!

 

Although the move has been met with some positive feedback many if the island residents are furious that the Army and Police are not first addressing the islands incinerator that has been out of action for eight years resulting in eight years of garbage mounting up at the plant behind the prison.

Why stop at Samui, what about the rest of Thailand???

Every footpath blocked by greedy selfish traders, who only care about themselves.

Rather generous of them to help in sign relocation.

Absolutely!  The police and the army need to get serious about smelly feet.

They did this once before, lasted 2-3 weeks and the signs, tables and blockages were right back.

Sshhhhhhh!!!

The main problem as we all know on the islands is that they have not found a safe and long term strategy to dispose of the garbage left behind by visitors and locals, both foreign and Thai.

 

The signs blocking footpaths and potholes are important areas as are tables and chairs placed on footpaths but the incineration and disposal of the garbage should be ' top priority ' for God's sake.

 

They have had enough revenue from tourism and for the incinerator to be out of action on Koh Samui for ' eight years ' then that is nothing short of criminal negligence. One can only imagine the danger and health hazards of being in proximity to the garbage dump.

 

If it is so near the prison, have the ' low risk ' prisoners due for release or end of sentence out there assisting in clearing up this problem. They have done their worst damaging society with their behaviour, there, they can  go somewhere to make amends.

all of this is temporary. they need to set someone up to police this on a regular basis.

Yes - they're Thais. If you ignore a problem for long enough, it will go away.

cant ignore the trash problem and have it go away. 200 000 tons of trash so far and growing. in this article it said the good general ordered it to be taken care of so maybe article 44 is going to be used.

Actually never seen the Army on Samui.

The Navy on the other hand...

Somehow, the phrase that comes to mind here is... rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

They have been making us move our signs off the sidewalks in koh phangan for years.  Never been police always the local government.

Next time, they should do it with a truck, all impediments carted away for free.

Now they are targeting signs that are hanging over public land.

They even made Makro move their huge  IN/OUT signs.
