Hi all,

Last year I took my 1 year old half Thai daughter back to the UK for a holiday, she has both Thai and British passports. As my wife was not present on this trip I had to present all documents and a letter from my wife allowing my daughter to leave. Immigration stamped her OUT on her British passport, I assumed this was standard procedure. When coming back IN to Thailand I showed the Thai passport and when they asked me where the exit stamp was I showed the british passport. This caused a lot of hassle and we almost missed our connecting flight. In the end they stamped her back IN on her Thai passport and told me next time she leaves I should not show the British passport.

My worry is that next time I try to take her out of the country, immigration will ask why there is an entry stamp but no exit stamp. If they start asking questions I will obviously have to show the British passport with the origional exit stamp. Has anybody had a similar experience? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

You should only need to show other passport to airline check-in staff - once cleared for flight immigration will not be concerned with anything but Thai passport.  Do not show other.  Exit is start of trip for a Thai (passport) so there is no expectation of any stamp and why they fill out entry/exit card on exit.

Surprised they let you leave on the British Passport as there won't have been a departure card or do you not need one for a 1yr old.

There were obviously no arrival stamps either.

The point is that the British passport was acquired in Thailand by a Thai resident and that should not have been used for the exit. The Thai passport should have been used and and a departure card completed.

Flying Thai to UK and back:

Exit Thailand, show British passport at Airline Check-in (shows right to enter UK).

At immigration leaving Thailand, show Thai passport, get exit stamp.

Arriving in UK, show UK passport.

Leaving UK, show Thai passport at Airline Check-in. I have read that the data from the passport is forwarded by the airline to Thai immigration so they know who to expect through immigration.

No immigration on leaving the UK, so no need to show UK passport to leave.

On arriving in Thailand show Thai passport.

I mistakenly showed the airline in the UK my daughter's British passport at check-in. On arrival in Thailand I thought there may be an issue as I had read on here of immigration demanding to admit on British passport. I entered Thailand through non-Thai line carrying my daughter's British passport. My wife took our daughter through with Thai passport and Thai line. She had no problems.

OP will have no problems from now if he follows advice of Thai immigration.
