Sorry if this has been answered somewhere, but the search facility isn't working.

I am referring to when I enter before the enter by date on a multi non O, but get another 90 days that finishes after the visa expires. Am I able to extend that visa, or does it have to be done before the enter by date? If I can, does the extension run from the end of the 90 days, or from the enter by date.

I'm asking because I would have to wait till the last 30 days and the visa would have expired by then.

Thanks for answers.

I am in a similar position, so to clarify. If my 1 year visa expires on Sept 30th and I leave on Sept 29th, coming back the same day, I would get an additional 3 months, starting from Sept 29th?

Yes (90 days in fact).

That is not what this thread was about however - extensions start when current permitted to say ends - a new visa entry starts when that entry is made and will be day one of the new permitted to stay time.

You're legally present in the country based on the permission to stay you were given by immigrations when you entered the country.

Visas are never extended or renewed. If you apply for an extension, you're asking for an extension of your permission to stay, not an extension of the visa.So as long as you qualify for an extension of stay and apply before your permission to stay expires, the expiration of the visa is irrelevant.

Not the same thing. The O/P was asking about an extension of stay after his visa had expired but his permission to stay was still valid. You're asking about a visa entry.

As long as your multi-entry visa is valid & unexpired, you can get a new visa entry and permission to stay. You're allowed to remain in the country based on the permission to stay given to you by immigrations. The fact that the visa you got from an embassy or consulate expires is irrelevant.

Just remember if you leave the country during your final 90 day stay, that would cancel the balance of the 90 day permission to stay. To keep your remaining days you would need a re-entry permit.
