For a relative of mine, I've been asked to check on TV what type of Benzodiazepine medicine available  on prescription in Thailand. My relative is using this medicine against anxiety but only when panic attacks when he has to and not every day. Think he said that the tablets he now takes is called Sobril or Sabril.

Thanks

Sabril (Vigabatrin) is available in Thailand.  No prescription technically required.  However, it'll only be available at a large pharmacy or hospital pharmacy (the latter might require a prescription).

These are two very different medications. Probably he is on Sabril daily for maintainence and taking a  benzodiazepine occasionally.

Benzodiazepines are strictly controlled drugs in Thailand and can only be gotten at a hospital, and are dished out sparingly. He will need to see a psychiatrist at a hospital for each refill. He should bring a letter from his doctor with him when he comes explaining the diagnosis and tretament, thsi will gretly aid in getting it prescribed.

In terms of what types of benzos are available here, a number: diazepam (valium and many locally made generic equivalents), alprazolam (Xanax and many locally made generic equivalents) , clonazdpam, bromazepam etc.

If bringing any of this into the country with him he should be aware of the following requirements:

Travellers to Thailand under treatment are allowed to transport medications containing psychotropic substances of Categories 2, 3, and 4 for personal treatment in a quantity not exceeding 30 days of prescribed usage when accompanied by a certificate/medical prescription from the prescribing physician. The certificate/medical prescription from the prescribing physician must indicate:
 the name and address of the patient
 the identified medical condition
 the name of the medications and the reason that those medications were prescribed for the patient's treatment
 the posology and total amount of medications prescribed
 the name, address, and license number of the prescribing physician

Thanks to both of you for very helpful information. My relative will go the way through a psychiatrist and get a prescription. As far as I know he initially had with him medication for 60 days with all the labeling and a pharmacia printed description of what he brought with him. He is retired and like it here and want to extend his stay. Btw, Sabril it was.
