Some of you will recall Phuket Beer here in Thailand.  Well, the brewery combusted about 15 years ago as a result of really bad (fraud) management.

Well, the beer is back.  At least the Phuket Beer label is back.  Bought 10 cans at Big C on Tuesday.  Not bad - considering it is brewed in Cambodia!

It might be of interest that the senior managers of the Phuket-based company sold the rights to the name from under the share-holders - mostly locals who lost everything in the process.

Red Truck IPA and Cheers Riceberry have been my favorite for a few months. If I get low Heineken or Singha

Try the Chalawan IPA. much better than Red Truck IMO. Even better is My Beer Friend if you can find it.

Can any of these beers be found in Chiang Mai?

The suspense is killing me,where to buy Chalawan IPA and the maybe places for My Beer Friend

The only place I've seen Chalawan is in my fridge, but Namton's might have it. The Block on Nimman professes to have MBF and they have their own pop-up pub in town along with other functions around CM and Pai. I suggest you befriend him on FB.

The owner of Phuket Beer is my friend. San Miguel was the previous brewer but they got too expensive and could not meet up with demand and schedules. Still a great beer available in cans and bottles.

Cheers Riceberry is a good beer. Actually all the Cheers beers are pretty decent. Laos beer is a great beer, and there is also Motor Head. All of these are at really good prices.

Geez Jase...do you like a quiet beer every now and then?  Im envious, thats not a bad stash.

Lately Ive been drinking Cheers Xtra, it is a 6% alcohol beer and tastes ok.  Just 45 baht at my local ma and pa shop for the 630ml or quart bottle.  Incidentally Cheers is brewed by the same outfit that produces heineken.

Great to see that locals are familiar with Cambodian brewers.......

To be clear, there are MANY companies claiming to produce Phuket Beer.

Phuket Island Lager,  supposedly stiff brewed in Phuket (actually sold the rights to the name to the Cambodian Company)

Phuiket Island Lager, Thai Amarit Brewery, Nonthaburi  (not seen for many years)

Phuket Island Beer, a lager brewed by National RD , in Kampong Chhnany Cambodia - the only license-holder to the name.

Phuket Beer, Tropical Bev Co. Bangkok (they claim to bve brewers but are in reality distributors of the Cambodian company).

I guess you missed my point entirely. You have a shit load and good for you but that didn't magically happen. Obviously you bought them somewhere. So where unless you want to keep your supply anonymous. If you aren't willing to say ,why post about it.
I use this forum and give honest answers, and even then I've been called a liar. Sharing my experiences and experiences of others is what this forum should be about.
Sometimes I give my opinion but as they say everyone has 1 just like an arse.

I won't show you the other fridge with the cheap stuff in it. Beer Laos for guests and the occasional quiet moment.

I get most of it from Wishbeer. Beer Laos from Makro and misc stuff from the Bottle Shop on Nimman in Chiang Mai . It's not a secret, I didn't realise that's what you were asking.

You can untwist your knickers now.

Would that be the bottle shop that closed a few weeks ago?

Possibly. The missus did say it was shut the other day when she went past.

Do you know if its a permanent closure?

I think it's permanent, but I don't know anything definite.

I don't when it closed, I first noticed it was closed on September 12 when I and a friend went there.  This is the place just north of soi 6 where they had tables and pretties on the sidewalk in front--a very popular place.  There is no sign or indication of what happened, but I suspect the landlord raised the rent and the business owner looked for another place or another business.

Nightlife on Nimmanhamin isn't dead, but it is definitely in declining health.

Edit:  An ironic addition; I've noticed several new hostels and guesthouses in the Nimmanhamin area, one between the Beer Republic and the Chiang Mai Housewives Club.  I don't know where these young people are going for entertainment, I'm pretty sure it's not the Housewives Club.

I always assumed the family owned the building but maybe not.

I have my own rooftop bar at home that is mainly a gesture of thanks to my staff once a month, hence the well stocked fridge. Unfortunately none of the local places are reliable enough on stock, pricing or food.

We used to go to Beer Republic quite often but declining quality of experience has meant we've only been there once or twice this year. Cube #7 is dead and the prices at Beer Lab are as ridiculous as their service is poor.

As I travel around the world I always try to drink a local brew. Caybrew currently in the Caymans.

Chang/Leo in Thailand, Anchor in Cambodia, San Mig in Philippines, Tusker in Kenya, etc...etc...

Not going to buy Phuket beer from Cambodia while in Thailand. I just prefer supporting something

local. :burp:
