Export car to Aust

Featured Replies

I have a bangkok Chevy truck that i want to send back to Australia in 18 months time. 2015 High Colorado. Has anyone got experience doing this?

No but i sent something else home once...what a waste of time and money, the car will cost you more than what you could buy one in AU for, shipping costs customs costs, the mob that take it off the ship will want to get paid too...bit of a scam, then the car will need to meet registration requirements...unless its a relic or classic its just not worth the effort or the cost.

the other factor is that many models, of most brands you can think of, are built to different specifications, than other countries.

The problem might not really become evident, until your first attempt to get a vehicle serviced.

Many parts can be incompatible to what is on the shelf in an OZ dealer's service centre,

which means you will be continually forced to have many items Imported.

p.s. do all cars/suv etc in LOS these days, have a heater for example?

ADR Compliance, or rather non-Compliance can mean your vehicle being waylaid in quarantine until compliance can be tested and confirmed...

... too many hidden costs

You need to check that exact model's ADR compliance first - if not then no way jose.

If it is compliant, then you need to get sale value of car here, then take away all costs to transport, insure, inspect (even if ADR OK it still needs inspection), and Aust registration.  If the difference between that and buying the same car used in Aust is not significant, then dont bother trying.
