China visa free - question about 72 hour rule

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

Very specific question.

I'm German national, planning to fly from Bangkok to HK and back.

Can I also visit mainland China applying the 72 hour visa free entry?

What would be your specific transit itinerary vis-a-vis Mainland China?

Flying from Bangkok either to Macau or Hong Kong, enter Guangzhou City/Province by land crossing, go back to Macau, fly back to Bangkok.

I need to check the rules again about land entrances, but I DO know that you can't use the transit visa-free program if you are flying A to B (let's say Guangzhou) and back to A.. That won't qualify.. You'd need to have the origin OR destination country be different..

is it 72 hour  layover between flights ?

or can it be when your passport is stamped and when you check back in at Airport and passport is stamped ?

and is this the same rules for USA passports ?  and do you also have to show hotel reservations ?

thanks for the info

TWOV requires entry and departure by air (except Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou).

If you just want to visit Mainland China, you as a German citizen should be able to get a five-day visa valid for Shenzhen-only on arrival at the Luo Hu crossing.

Thanks, that is excellent information! The website of German MOFA did not mention this kind of visa.
