Dell laptop battery in Thailand (XPS M1530)

Featured Replies

I've refurbished an old but perfectly working Dell XPS M1530 laptop (built 2009). All that's left is to add a new battery.

I ordered one from Aliexpress but looks like it got stopped or stolen (been almost 2 months).

Does anyone know a reliable place to get a new battery in Thailand? I called Dell but other than referring me to their authorised dealers, they weren't able to help me. I've asked two authorised dealers and neither one had batteries for this model (too old). I'm happy with a non-original 3rd party battery as long as the quality is decent.

Thanks :)

2 months is a bit too long but I wouldn't give up hope on the Aliepress package yet. I have ordered a few and 6-7 weeks seems about normal for a Lithium Ion battery.

China Post won't ship LI batteries so generally they are shipped to Thailand from Europe (e.g.Sweden Post). Not sure how they get to Europe in the first place. I guess some kind of consolidated sea freight.

Even if Dell could supply they will ask an arm & a leg.

I did get a weird message from the seller on Aliexpress at one point, in Chinglish it said "as the post office investigated contraband, the battery is contraband, security is very strict" which I guess means that the battery was intercepted somewhere. Hence trying to find one in Thailand.

I live a fair bit from Bangkok but I guess I'll give Pantip Plaza a go next time I'm there.

There are one or two specialized shops, cannot recall names, that sell nothing but laptop batteries in both Pantip (4th floor) and Fortune malls (2nd floor). Worth a look see.

The problem is the age of the computer. I have an Acer vintage 2008 and nobody in Bangkok, Khon Kaen or Korat has been able to find a battery. There is a vendor on Lazada selling it but at a ridiculous 2800 baht. When I visit the US next year I will order from amazon and pack into my carry on.
