CHIANG MAI: -- Chiang Mai Governor Pawin Chamniprasart assured on Tuesday that authorities did not discriminate against green tea tycoon Tan Passakornnatee’s Eastin Tan Hotel in Chiang Mai when they raided the hotel to check its operating licence for the second time today.

He pointed out that the hotel does not have a license and, therefore, it cannot open for business.

However, the hotel still carries on its business in defiance of the order to suspend operations until a license is secured, said the governor, adding that authorities may slap more charges against the hotel and its manager.

Doesn't have a licence so it's fair that it can't operate.  With the hotel blatantly baring it's naked  butt in defiance and continuing to operate it should be forcefully shut down and prohibited from obtaining a future licence.  Sell it to someone who wants to run a legitimate and legal business complying with the law.

Simple questions have to be,  how long has the hotel been operating without a licence and are we to believe this has just come to light ?

-prediction:

Hotel will stay open..

daily fine will be paid until  the right paperwork is presented

new permit will take some time (money) but they will get it.

Key word is may. Looks like Khun Tan does not really care much what the local gendarmes do they are apparently so beneath him. I am sure he has already made a phone call to Bangkok. He looks to have more connections than the local governor of this Shin enclave. We here are on the fringes of Thai society.

Khun Tan is a billionaire, he can afford to stay open and pay the daily slap on the wrist if the hotel is running smoothly. The person in charge of collecting taxes from the provincial office should be the one who is investigated, after all if you run a hotel / apartment you have to report monthly to the provincial office regarding to the number of guests, etc and pay your taxes.
