So if there is no crackdown on zero tourism in Vietnam or elsewhere then the Chinese may not be coming back to Pattaya at all. ?

Interesting article from the Jakarta Post, thanks. Since there wasn't any direct VNAT- sanctioned wooing of the Chinese, we can only assume that they are experiencing "zero Dong" tourism. The non TAT-sponsored Chinese invasion of Thailand seemed centered on Chiang Mai and Pattaya, Vietnam's appears to be centered on  Danang and Nha Trang. Whether the Vietnamese government crushes it or finds some way to accommodate it is yet to be seen. My experience based on working in Vietnam for about 10 years leans towards the latter.

As someone said above Bali/ Indonesia could be the next destination . My friends (living on the west coast of America)just got a 9 day package with a 4 star hotel for $800 pp . That's ridiculously cheap , if it's cheap to come from America then imagine the bargains that can be had coming from

china ? Thailands just not cheap anymore .

One of the large  zero baht  Chinese  tour companies that operated in Pattaya was recently raided, assets seized and owners jailed...might account for some of the decline.

lol thats counted for all of the decline.....period !

No, but it did account for a significant drop in Pattaya visitors about a month ago when they were shut down. This was commensurate with an overwhelming improvement in road traffic, especially on Sukhumvit in the mornings when they were usually being bused to the latex factory and King Power, Beach Road morning and afternoon with the island visitors being dropped/picked up as well as Second and Third road in the evenings when they would be bused to/from north side all-you-can-eat buffets and cabarets. Subsequent recent events in Thailand may have had a minimal effect but pretty sure the surge in numbers entering Vietnam and Bali aren't arriving on itineraries that were in place several months ago.

Vietnam, Bali, Philippines, maybe Burma. Alot of options.

Even if Thai govt relaxes crackdown on zero tours, I dont see anything reversible.

The  mainland beaches in above countries are much nicer.

The Chinese culture is much more similar to Vietnam than Thailand.

And again the  Chinese have had some bad experiences in Thailand.

You are close on the cultural similarities although Vietnam will claim the contrary as there's no love lost there. China has historically regarded Vietnam as its unruly southern province, always has and always will. Vietnam also shares a land border and probably the largest contiguous marine boundary with China now the latter are 'enforcing' their 7-dash line claim which the Vietnamese notably haven't been too vociferous about. Something akin to 'biting the hand' possibly?

You have had some bad experiences maybe but there hasn't been enough Chinese tourism to support your claim.

Yes for sure.  it is raining here everyday and with the Royal situation. Next month people will complain again there are too many of them.

I'm pretty confident that neither the rain nor the recent event has the slightest relation to the lack of Chinese, and doubt very much that they will be back next month, as they seemingly have found other countries where they can continue their rip off tours.
