Smart TV connected to Internet How to Protect

Featured Replies

I am thinking about purchasing a Smart TV. It will be connected to Internet via wifi signal. Do I need to protect it with a Anti Virus type software that works on TV'S?

No.

You do however need to put a band aid over the webcam.

TV's are very hackable.

So with a Smart TV. You cant protect it, so basically you use it for finding stuff on the internet you want to watch and dont use it to log into any accounts/online banking etc and make sure the webcam is covered.

You can add storage to a smart TV, SD card usb drive etc.

Most smart TVs are just a built in android box, so all the same security issues as a mobile phone or tablet.  You can use the browser to do online banking, install a bogus app with malware. If you run antivirus in your phone or tablet, then the same applies to an android smart TV. Some TVs restrict access to what apps can be installed.

If I had the Smart TV on my home network and was just using the TV to watch netflix's and youtube, could the TV create a weak point for the network. Tablets and PC'S all have anti virus software installed
