I was beginning to wonder if the magic words "Pump Shell Huey Kaew" were going to cease to work their magic with the local songthaew drivers as the secret code to get me home in light of the closure of the Shell Petrol Station on Huey Kaew Rd, a few hundred meters from Kad Suan Kaew Rd a few months ago.  I knew it would be a matter of time until it was forgotten as a local landmark, right up there with Wat Phra Singh in the roadmap of the song thaew drivers' minds.  

 

But, rejoyce!  It looks like the closure was merely temporary.  They're back to pumping petrol, although the convenience store is still empty.  It has a hopeful, soon-to-be-reopened air, so perhaps it will once again become the 24-hour oasis for those crisis situations when late-night party guests have consumed all your ice and munchies, yet the conversation is still S-O-O good and the liquor and wine supplies are holding.  

 

But in the meantime, they're back to dispensing gasoline (petrol) and the vehicles have resumed using their lot to execute those graceful U-turns at the Huey Kaew/Ratchaphrunk intersection.  

One post that is difficult to understand has been removed.  

I had got in habit of having both my Car & M/cycle washed there.

Old crew had good attitude.

Change of management ?

Several other Shell Stations have closed around CM.

I wish it was a 24-hour oasis just for that rare need of something very late; however, in all my time here, it's always closed around 11PM (at least the convenient store portion has so closed).

 

As I was walking by an hour or so ago, I stopped and asked one of the attendants when the store would re-open.  She said "bpee naa" (next year).

555.  I guess our parties don't go beyond 11 pm!

Is the car wash open as well?

No extra services yet, only petrol.  The convenience food shop, car wash, etc all down now.  I suspect the place was boarded up to refit the underground tanks, replace the old pumps and plan a rejuvenation of the entire plot.
