US man shows love for the king as he repairs road in Khon Kaen

KHON KAEN:-- An online story of an American businessman who has been repairing a potholed road in Khon Kaen in honor of the departed king has wowed netizens.

Mr Peter, 52, who is married to a Thai woman and makes regular visits to the kingdom decided to do his bit to help when he heard the news last week. He flew in and along with his wife Premthai, 34, bought 20 bags of asphalt to patch up the road in the Ban Nong Khot area of the north eastern province.

Reporters went to see him after the story proved to be a hit on social media.

Peter said that he was a businessman involved in house extensions in the US. He has been coming to Thailand for the last six years.

He met and married his wife here and they have two daughters. He lives in the States but makes monthly visits to his Thai family.

He said: "When I first came here I was struck by the admiration that the Thai people had for their king so I researched him online and found out all about his good deeds for the people. I was impressed - there surely cannot be a monarchy like this anywhere else in the world".

Peter said he loved Thailand and the Thai people and had always felt welcome here. When he heard about the death of the king he was unable to go to Bangkok for the funeral rites but decided to do a good deed instead.

So he bought the asphalt and along with the help of his wife drove their pick up to the road near their house to make much needed repairs.
