Just for info.

If you have an older car and need a replacement screen etc there is a guy in Ban Chang who can get a replacement made if you have the old one, cracked or broken, but has to be in one piece.

Might not be news to many but was to me.

Auto glass shops are found throughout Thailand...often the window "flim" shops double as auto glass shops too...or can certainly put you onto one.

Agree, but I was posting about getting an obscure or rare non stock replacement made for a fraction of the price of importing one.

You didn't say anything about "obscure" or "rare" glass panels in your op.

The big "but" is the quality on par with an imported one? I've seen some bad replacement screens, even in "farang-land".

True but getting an original imported is on the lines of 'leave your arm and leg' on the way out.

My replacement rear glass has no bubbles, ripples or through distortion.

At 25% of the cost of an original and no import or postage charges it's well worth it

Just checked and an original rear window for my merc is 1495 US$. Add shipping and import 30%.

Replacement here 4500 baht.

I went out one morning and the back window in my old Nissan Frontier was shattered, still in one piece but a million cracks. My wife called the Nissan dealer but they had to order one. It was there the next day. It had the wires for the anti fog. They replaced the window and washed the truck. Total cost, 1,300 baht. No complaints from me.

True, but it's not a 42 year old car and it's japanese so the back window might be common to 4 or 5 different models so easy to find.
