Jingthing
Jomtien Beach Road was a river a few hours ago ...
Suradit69
Pattaya Tai was on the way to becoming river-like, but the water level seems to have subsided rather quickly. Right now it's no more than the usual puddle here and there, at least to the west of Third Rd.

topt
Between 5 and 6 o'clock it was a complete nightmare. Police stopped me from turning left out of Hollywood road to go down by Jamiesons Pub. Beach Road was not only flooded but blocked by a coach and a car wedged together where both had decided to turn left somewhere around soi 4 or similar - bus was almost completely blocking nearly all the lanes and still full of Chinese. presumably they were waiting for the insurance reps........inched around that one car at a time. Soi Honey, Buakhow from there to Central and south on Central were flooded. By then I think the police had just reopened third road north of Central as it was passable but not for all cars. Was still raining (less heavily) at 8 but almost stopped - was able to take the dogs out........
SidJames
Took me 2 hours to get from Pratamnak to Boonthavorn on the Suk & back We were trying to get to the hospital but only got that far & the clinic rang us to tell us the doc couldn't wait any longer & had left. Suk southbound was blocked off just past the 'tunnel' How will they keep that dry if the roads above are flooding?

Headed north on Sukhumvit after 4 PM and noted all traffic stalled at the traffic lights so assumed the run-off from Soi Watboonsamphan had flash-flooded the usual bit. Turned into Pattaya Tai and cut across to Third Road via Chaloemprakiat 18 where it was up to the running boards on the pickup. Third and Lengkee were deserted. Stopped for dinner at 5 PM on Soi Post Officer @ Second. At 7 PM going home, Soi Diana was knee deep and Buakhao was like a river as I crossed over into Lengkee. Third was busy and mostly but cross streets were a mess of cars and bikes trying short cuts to avoid the gridlock on Klang. Big tailback at the Highway 7 exit for the Croc Farm just before the tollbooths.

Orac
A flash flood that went away quickly as happens several times a year.
Mattd
In light of the floods that always happen in the South road / Sukhumvit junction area, then It is going to be very interesting to see how the engineers eventually tackle building the tunnel that is proposed for there at a later date, now this will not be easy from a flooding POV! Yes, the rumored South Pattaya/Theprasit tunnel will be a much longer and more complex than the current one having a dog-leg in it. The area between Watboonsamphan Road and Tai has always flooded and despite extensive drainage work these past few years, it will always flood. I think they would need to run an elevated, filled section between the south end of the current tunnel to the entrance of any new tunnel. The properties and businesses on either side will have to live with that.
Mattd
Little point in building it then really in that case, yes, the floods are not often, however, much better to build a bridge!

Don't despair. Some have plenty of faith in the planners of this mega project that is not even one third complete (the South Pattaya and Thepprasit intersections are in their sights). Am certain that the flooding issue between the intersections has been fully thought through as I'm not really sure of the benefit of a dry tunnel containing vehicles with nowhere to go. Do overpasses flood? Perhaps the total confusion over the traffic management at the start of the project - maybe the planners are fans of the hokey cokey - was an aberration and the end result will be the usual five star experience and well worth the money being spent, with absolutely no hint of any envelopes of any colour in the process. anotheruser
I can see the headline now. "All 46 passengers on bus die when yaba fuelled drunken driver goes full speed into a flooded tunnel." Secondary reports are in" "What started as a tragic day ends up with a miraculous story from one lucky bus driver. The missing driver who was presumed dead was later found alive and well in a walking street area gogo. The Driver a Mr. emloi yababeer credited his survival to the amulet he had stolen from the luggage of a passenger he had drugged a mere few hours before the carnage. He want on to say "The amulet truly guarded him from a catastrophe and he is thankful the bus company has assured him he will keep his job."
