Hope this is just a simple ask, not been out of Thailand for the past 8 years, decided to take a short trip to KL there and back in the same day, do you get entry on arrival or do I need to get before I travel? Thanks.

you get 90 days stamped in, not just 30, actually not even an onward ticket required (some airlines do create their own rules though which has nothing to do with Malaysian immigration law, flying AirAsia or MAS is recommended therefore), and no silly filling of an immigration form - it is all in their computers as it should be in year 2016
