I am in the process of doing the paperwork for a SP 47 partner visa application and the SP 40 sponsor application for my de facto wife of 10 years. I am a bit unclear about a few things.

1. My partner has been on a tourist visa to Australia six times for a total of 517 days. We returned from Australia a short while ago and her last tourist visa is still valid until the end of June 2017.

When applying for a partner visa, will she need an Australian Federal Police check? She already has a Thai police clearance, which we obtained on 8. July 2016.

2. Will my de facto wife need what the Thais call a "Single certificate" from her Amphur? She has a translated divorce certificate from a previous marriage and all the other required documents.

3. Do I, as her sponsor need an Australian Federal Police check? On Form SP 47 there is only a mention of police checks for sponsors, where there are applicants under the age of 18 included.

4. Will I need a Thai police clearance as well, as I have lived in Thailand with my de facto wife for 8 to 9 months every year for the last ten years?

5. Will my two 888 statuary declaration forms witnessed by a JP in Australia 4 weeks ago expire after a certain period and will that cause a problem.

6. Can I pay the Partner visa application fee at the VFS Trendy Office by just using a valid Visa card?

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Most of the questions you have asked are answered in the preamble of the SP40 form. Unless requirements have changed fairly recently you will not require a 'single certificate' only the divorce papers. So long as they are current, the Stat Dec forms will be valid for the period of the application process.

Thanks for your very helpful reply, especially in regard to the 'single certificate'. A Thai lady friend, who is migrating to the USA told us she was required to obtain a 'single certificate' from her local Amphur and needing two Thai witnesses. We thought we might have to do the same. There won't be a need to do so now.

We will have to get a move on and make our way to VFS in the Trendy building in Bangkok this week, as our Stat Dec forms, witnessed and certified in Australia, will expire in two weeks time.

There was a delay, as I arrived with a new Australian passport a fortnight ago and had to have the relevant visa stamps transferred from my old passport to the new passport to renew my extension of stay for another year. This required three visits to the Chonburi Immigration office in Jomtien Soi 5 and a trip to the Australian Embassy in Bangkok.

Thanks again for your reply and the clarification.

Thanks for the courtesy reply. As a recommendation I would cross check your documentation whilst visiting VFS. I recall you can make an appointment for one on one meeting (fee for service) for advise/support prior to formal submission of doco.

Thanks again for this very useful information. I will have to visit the Bangkok Hospital Pattaya for an appointment shortly and will ring VFS as soon as we return to our condo, to make an appointment for a one on one meeting.
