Yingluck urged to buy rice from farmers in general, not just those in Ubon

BANGKOK: -- Former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra told a group of rice farmers in Ubon Ratchathani that, if her Pheu Thai party ever has another chance to be in the government, it would push up the price of paddy to help farmers.

Ms Yingluck who was on an inspection trip to the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani visited a group of farmers from various districts who were milling Hom Mali paddy for sale in front of a municipal school in Muang district.

She talked with the farmers and asked them about the price of paddy. They said they decided to mill the paddy themselves rather than selling the grains to the millers who often took advantage on them by suppressing the price claiming the grains have high humidity.

Upset by the millers gave them at most seven baht per kilogramme of paddy depending on the humidity of the grains, they said they decided to group together to mill their crops and sell them in the market directly to the consumers of up to 20 baht per kg of milled rice which has earned an extra 5 baht profit per kg.

Ms Yingluck then bought a small amount of rice from the farmers and them to members of her entourage 5 kgs each.

With promises like that , it looks more like staging a farmer's revolution . She desperately wants to be in power again so she can get out of the 35 Bn fine.

Hell - I think you and I both would want to get out of a 35 Bn fine, wouldn't we?

The farmers are a very powerful lobby in Thailand and she, like her predecessors have their hearts and minds.

The government has indirectly validated her governments approach to falling rice prices, by giving the farmers similar subsidies as hers further entrenching their support of her!

At least she out with the farmers. Yet to see Prayut or any of his NCPO generals reaching out to the farmers.  Probably scared of the reception by the peasants. Government House does provide them comfort, peace and protection against reporters.

The idea that the current government will ever allow the old government back to power in the next hundred years is pure fantasy. There is far too much at stake to have either puea thai or  Democrats poking their noses around what's gone on in the last few years.

Why would she even think that? ??

The next "government " will be a small rubber stamp party  that "understands" the need for the army to be a 51 percent part of all future "government ".

Perhaps she should commit to buy only from individual farmers, not from the millers, to show her solidarity ?

Maybe she should promise to help encourage the formation of local co-operatives, if PTP gets back into power, to help all the farmers everywhere ? That would be real progress.

Or perhaps even better, buy some of the ageing/rotting old-crop warehoused-stocks, which her administration built-up, and which are proving so slow to dispose-of  ...  isn't that overhang one of the causes of current market-prices being depressed, along of course with global over-supply ?

So she spent what, 100 baht?

Oh C'mon - every baht helps.

One thing it does show is that the people still haven't learnt their lesson - these people need to wake up and see how stupid and ignorant they portray themselves as being!! She is a pathetic woman that needs to face the reality of the misery she has caused

Yes with the next general election only a year away maybe they will get another chance.

"Her" party - did she buy it off her big brother or was it his gift?

He's to shit scared to come back, she's on a ban, so which member of the clan, close relative or in-law will be "chosen" as the next puppet?

Actually others were already suggesting farmers selling direct to consumers. PTT were already talking about letting them use their forecourts etc.

Seems more like big brother told her to get off her arse and jump on the bandwagon and show how "proactive and creative" she is - and do a bit of acting to get some sympathy at the same time.

As a mushroom farmer herself, she's used to spreading shit.

The election has already been postponed twice so it wouldn't surprise me to learn that it's been postponed for a third time come election day next year.

In any event the new constitution was written by the military and one of the clauses states that the 250 seat senate be wholly appointed by the military government. That in itself will mean that the military will feature prominently in successive Thai elections for years to come.

Or perhaps she still genuinely believes that it was a good idea, as her brother told her it would be ?

Did anyone in the family ever actually admit that it had been a fiasco ? :saai:

The first step towards solving a problem, is admitting that a problem exists, I was always told !

Perhaps it was all the foreigners' faults, they were the ones who didn't buy the rice, at the new higher-price, and hence scuppered the massive publically-funded gamble ?

Reminiscent of  "the operation was a success, but the patient died".

Reacting to the ex-prime minister’s publicity stunt, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan said he didn’t know whether she had any ulterior motive for showing off by buying rice from farmers.

He urged urged to help farmers in general and did not just a small amount of rice from farmers in Ubon Ratchathani.

So says Jaba da Hutt,

:coffee1:

Is Prawit and his fellow generals buying rice to help the farmers? In fact has he and his NCPO leaders visited any of the affected provinces. If they have visited Phichit, they may have prevented the poor farmer who commited suicide.

Yes. She should especially buy rice from those provinces that had farmers committed suicide over her rice scam.

Is there any bit of yellow nonsense you haven't swallowed hook, line and sinker??

Come on, let's spell gullible together.
