  • Passed this place on one of my walks around Bangkok, instantly felt in love with the place

  • I didn't take this in Thailand, but it is certainly abandoned-building related, and I started this thread so hopefully that gives me some flexibility ???? . I just returned to Bangkok from a few weeks

I shot some photos yesterday at the abandoned Oscar Theater in Makkasan (Petchaburi Road), which is now home to 'working' girls, low-rent gangsters, and homeless folks just trying to get by.  Photography is not allowed on the premisis, with 'private property' signs and such posted around, so I paid an overseer (who lives on the second floor) a bit of cash to take some photos for a few minutes.  He said that his boss doesn't like for people to take photos.  I couldn't get into the actual theater itself, as it has been boarded up for years.  However, I did read some posts on the southeast Asia movie theater project regarding Oscar Theater, and one person said that the owner has charged tens of thousands of baht per day to a local tv station to shoot there.  The full series is here:  http://www.daxward.com/The-abandoned-oscar-theater-se

Visited a 30-year abandoned movie theater in Sukhotai Province today. Have been to 4 abandoned film theaters in the past month, this is the only one that still has seats & the original projectors. Only had time to process one photo

Diznax be careful of the dust in places like that. Probably riddled with asbestos.

Anyway look forward to seeing the rest of the series...did the projectors still have the lenses on them by any chance?

A friend asked me the same question recently and I didn't look to see, nor did I see any bulbs.  Wouldn't be surprised if they were still there.  I was concerned about what might be in the air in such an old and decaying place, hopefully no asbestos exposure.  No cough yet, at least.  I have a story on this place coming out for sale tomorrow via my syndicator. I'm not sure that they'll choose my best pictures in the pictorial so I've created this gallery on my site with my selected images.

I made it into the I.C.E. tower near Din Daeng on Saturday before dawn.  No comment (for now) as to how, as a story will likely be published soon.  It's very restricted nowadays due to recent vandalism done by foreign 'visitors'.  Officially I'm saying that we paid a guard.  Anyway, it's 37 floors, abandoned for 20 years since the TomYumGoong Crisis of '97, and a really cool place for photos.  Here are three of my favorites.

Also, I got a few shots in an abandoned hospital which required a lot of sneaking around and diversion tactics (my gf spoke with the guard while I snuck around for just a few minutes).  They've been filming a horror movie there recently with the  director Poj Arnon.   Here are my favorites from the few photos I was able to take in two visits.

Drive from Bangkok to Chonburi on Bang Na Trad highway. At the Bangpakong River are two abandoned condos and nice houses. They must have run out of money in 1997 during the crisis, the buildings were all near completion. The houses came with a boat garage and direct access to the river. Going to Bangkok tomorrow, will try to take some pictures on the way back.

Astonishing series, really. Loved it.

Would you share the GPS coordinates of this gas station? or at least define its location? I happen to live in this area when in the LOS, can't recall seeing it, would be curious to go take a look (and no, I won't take pictures, I'm a terrible photographer anyway)

A very cool thread! When I lived in England as a teen we would go urban exploring to abandoned sites; one place was an old location that was something to do with the military I heard, it was surrounded by a big fence and inside was many different buildings. There was security always patrolling there and we went one night to sneak in, I got loads of adrenaline sneaking around trying to be stealth, at one point we thought we saw a light shining through the window at us and s*** ourselves! Was so fun!!!

Is there any places in or near Bangkok that you recommend are fun to go into

I took a look at my navigational history from the drive & it's somewhere close to here.
