A thai lady friend got a tourist visa to USA! now what?

Featured Replies

I met several nice Women on my July excursion to Thailand.  One is a 50 yr old retired Nurse.  She had this dream of seeing the USA.  She got all her documents together and applied and then had her interview about 3 weeks ago.  I'm not sure what all it takes to get a visa but I was surprised she got one but if any woman could it was her.   She was told she got the visa in the interview but it took 3 weeks to get ( normal is  5 days to get in the mail is what she hears from others).  This delay  was cumbersome as her travel plans are in 5 days.  Her original plans were for a 21 day trip but now is thinking 60 days.

Lets say she comes here and meets a man she likes and decides to stay 6 months...  how many times during her 10 yr/6 month  visa  can she come over for 3-6 months?

Isn't coming over here to visit a man a problem if she ever wants to get a green card? sorta like Malania but without someone to pull strings.

She is also a bit interested in becoming a foreign nurse here.  Does anyone know if she can start that process while here? Does this require a 6 month contract with these nurse slave labor profiteering companies?

Glad she got the 10-year visa at her first try.

Multiple visits to the U.S. are allowed during the 10 years, but if she took more than one a year, I'd bet U.S. Immigration would start questioning her intent as a "tourist" and could even block entry.  Once a year for three months, no problem, six months at a whack, hmmm, probably OK for a few visits, then questions come up.

Re U.S. nursing, do a Google for:  u.s. nursing license for foreign nurse

Lots of informative hits.

Yes lots of need for nurses here in USA.  I was hoping for some first hand tips..

I was just wondering if a tourist visa would be ok if I wanted to pick one woman and retire say 7 months USA and 5 in thailand?

She will need a work permit, which requires a hospital/legit business to offer her a temp job, before she leaves Thailand and I believe that also requires a different visa. Different can of worms all together.
