True Fitness Asoke had a small sign in the lobby yesterday saying that their lease was expiring this month so the fitness centre would close. It mentioned that  Ngamwongwan branch was still open. When I asked staff about Central World branch they said it was closing too. When I left the building at 5pm the sign was gone. Very strange. This is really sad because Asoke branch was very convenient and I had free access via my K-Bank credit card.

Apparently they are stalling over refunds for paying members:  http://bk.asia-city.com/city-living/news/true-fitness-centralworld-closure-leaves-members-stranded

This is my only concern with up front membership payments of this type in SE Asia. The problem is bad enough but coupled with the 'smoke and mirrors' operating style of some companies here and the staff, some of whom may not even know or just will not tell you the truth, makes it even worse.

This is the second time in a couple of weeks I've heard about Exchange closing, no way will I be joining there now.  I much prefer a monthly payment model which I think Virgin has.  Even if it's a bit more pricey it's safer IMO.

Good luck to folks trying to get their money back!!!

Yeah I'm a member there but fortunately, I insisted on monthly direct debits.

Works out a little more expensive but, as I use the gym 5 times a week, it's still incredibly cheap.

I'll be gutted if it shuts because it's only a 2 minute walk through the Interchange Building to get there.

That being said, though, the machines are a bit long in the tooth and many of the treadmills and bikes are out of order.

Looks like I'll have to hoof it to Virgin Active too but I'm told they've got state-of-the-art equipment there as well as lots of stunners to look at as you do your squats

I office in the Exchange Tower, and though I don't frequent any gyms, every guy in my office who does switched from True in Exchange to the gym in Terminal 21 when it opened.  It's just about as close to Interchange.

Pity ita closing, I went to centralworld for two years and it was a nice gym.. if a bit too gay for my liking.

Unfortunately all the fit girls all go to fitness first in paragon, at virgin i rarely see decent ones!  by the way go to virgin Emquartier, not Chong nonsi, it is much quieter.

People will never learn and just deserve what happens to them !

California closing experience was not enough for some people it seems, so they keep paying for yearly or lifetime membership ?

Ridiculous.

I think you are being harsh. People believe in the supposedly good faith that a business , such as True fitness and especially California wow that they will not close, especially if they are an international brand. If you are a  keen and lifetime fitness buff, paying a one of fee for life is pretty good business sense.

I always thought it was because people are brainwashed from an early age and also look for something higher, as they need to believe in this, instead from their inner selves.

I would have said people are trustworthy, gullible, new to Thai business practices, instead of stupid. We are all entitled to our opinion.

this is why I regard people who pay an upfront lump-sum for Thailand elite membership to be quite inastute -particularly as they already went broke once before:giggle:
