NAKHON PATHOM: -- A CCTV accident video posted online has shocked the Thai public. The video shows a four year old boy being hit head on in the rain as he runs in front of a vehicle.

A good Samaritan who stopped to help the boy on his way home said that his only thought was to get the boy to hospital as he was covered in blood, reports Sanook.

But Somprasong Mui-ee added: "In the crown of bystanders was a woman who blamed a green vehicle for the accident". She then left the scene.

This woman is believed to be the female trader who hit the boy just after midday Sunday.

The boy - Khanat Piakaew - is recovering in hospital in Nakorn Pathom east of Bangkok.

His kindergarten teacher said he was a clever if naughty boy at times. Everyone at the school loves him and were shocked by the accident.

The father of the boy said that if the driver had owned up straight away he would not have asked them for anything.

The boy was seen dashing out from behind a parked car by a shop where he and his older brother, aged 9, had just bought some sweets.

Police are hunting for the hit and run driver and want to make an example of her.

Footage from CCTV of the accident was posted on Facebook on the Thai page that translates "If you want to be famous we can arrange it".

Daddy says if the driver had owned up straight away he wouldn't have asked for anything so does that mean he'll now be looking for compensation if the driver is traced ?

No words of distress or sense of loss at losing a child ?

He can make more children, but the opportunity to get money is few...

I highly doubt that driver could have avoided the accident. Watching that video a few times, there is no way he/she had enough time to react to the kid suddenly (for some odd reason) dashing out onto the roadway. The driver was already on the right side of the left lane, it was pouring rain and the kid just runs out onto the roadway ?

However, the driver tried to blame someone else and then drove off and that in itself is a crime (probably two). Maybe not insured ?

Yes, he deserves to be hit by a car? Pathetic. The driver needs to be caught quickly.

The driver fled the scene yes, but was certainly not to blame for the accident.

So who can we say is responsible? An excited kid running around in the rain... playing by the roadside seems to be the problem.

Have a heart, chaps, this is just horrible and lucky he didn't go under the wheels. Kids will be kids and (I cringe saying stuff happens elsewhere) but this exact happens literally everywhere. Cannot blame the driver (wasn't speeding or anything), but they've set themselves up by doing the thing that many Thais do in the event of an accident, RUN.

Why blame the driver for the boys stupidity?

Parents are to blame for not teaching the boy about road safety.

OOPS sorry nobody here knows about road safety, it is an alien concept to Thais.

He's 4 years old <deleted>....at that age they have no perception of cars/accidents. having said that, kids need to always be supervised when near roads. The driver should have stopped and rendered assistance. NO hopefully their face will be all over the internet for being an Ass****.

Remember Folks , this is Thailand , Safety is a non starter for everything that walks, let alone a four year old child...

we we see it all the time, Adults just walking without looking...

and of course , here in Thailand it's all about MONEY....

sad for,the kid, but any normal parent would of taught his child about crossing the road..., or playing near the road..., never too young to learn...

The driver could do very little. The kid ran out in front of the car. But at the end of the day, you don't leave the scene of an accident. The driver should be in deep trouble and made an example of to not do a runner. Also, if people attack any driver who hits someone in their car, they should also be made an example of. People need to let the police deal with it.

My missus has a 5 year old nephew. He's the nicest kid in the world but he's hard work. Everyone is always watching him and it's tiring work. Accidents can and always will happen, but they can be prevented and lessened with proactive and forward thinking. Anytime my missus nephew is in a car park ,etc, someone grabs his hand. This is why I don't have kids. I enjoy my sanity too much.

these things happen

The issue is that the person driving the vehicle not only tried to lie about what had happened but also fled the scene - the accident was clearly not her fault unless she was speeding which does not seem to be the case

You are correct. Also the driver was probably worried about being attacked by bystanders for knocking down the lad.  We will more than likely read later she hands herself in.

This situation shows what is completely wrong with Thailand.

The first problem is the parking of the silver car. That's why we have a foot path in front of a shop so their is a distance between the front of the shop and the road. This was an accident waiting to happen.

Second no free medical so people feel the need to run from an accident.

Third people seeking compensation from drivers. All vehicles should be required to have an adequate accident insurance so drivers don't feel the need to run.

This driver never had a chance of seeing that child.

That being said I'm not sure how fast the car was travelling but given the conditions of Thai roads there should be a limit of 40ks in built up areas.

Sorry but I thought that I read the child was recovering in hospital.

Everything wrong here.... first the stupid child..... then the driver who wasn't in no way to blame until she tried to blame someone else (however you could put this down to the compensation culture here)..... then the father who seems more concerned with the money than his own failure.

If this child is so wild and stupid his dad shouldn't let him go out alone. Maybe the carowner will send the bill of the cardamage to the dad.

Do you also agree that a good samaritan should not take the child to hospital as he will get blamed, especially if he is a farang?
