PRIME MINISTER General Prayut Chan-o-cha, head of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), has issued a new order setting aside 50 new positions at the Prime Minister’s Office for officials accused of corruption or under investigation.

The move initially transferred three officials, including a member of the Shinawatra family.

The rationale behind Wednesday’s order Number 68/2559 appeared to be to deal with officers being investigated for alleged wrongdoing or who were being considered for transfers to boost workforce fluidity.

Prayut invoked the interim charter’s Article 44, which grants the NCPO leader absolute legislative, executive and judicial power.

No suspension on full or a percentage of salary !

Seems more like ' come to the front of the class where I can keep my eye on you '.

The govt really is an iron rice bowl.

Name and shame. Same as with drunk drivers.

Put pics up of people found guilty of corruption and publicise their pictures. "So and so, found guilty of corruption has been found guilty of stealing X baht from his fellow Thai people. Money that could have been used for hospitals and schools, etc"

it would be a step in helping people understand what corruption is and how it's a cancer on society. It's no different than some smarmy rich spiv putting his hand in your pocket and stealing your money. Taking baby formula from your baby or taking life saving medicine from a hospital, etc. Use pictures as analogies.

But im serious about this issue. You have to be serious about it for it to work.

Agree with you but unfortunately they have defamation (loss of face) laws.

Why not set up a whole division - the Department of Suspected Officials (DSO) - under the Minister for Justice?

A view of the inactive posts department.....still plenty of room....

Are there still room for military officers under investigation for corruption?

Those 50 seats will be next to the exhaust of the toiletrooms and the bins from the kitchen. There are no windows and no soft seats.

The aircon at that spot is 30 years old and rarely works. Those seats don't have their own parkinglot so they'll have to use public transport. At lunchtime the other departments go first, these seats get the leftovers.

It sounds like he is settling in for the long term and does not want to step on too many toes.  Perhaps he is thinking of Minister Mentor role for himself, as the country needs more bike lanes and help with beach chairs.  50 posts to tackle corruption sounds woefully under staffed.

If only it was 50 new posts to investigate corruption within the PMs office !.

But would 50 than be enough to get close to making any significant progress?

Of course not. There is absolutely zero proof of anything corrupt or untoward as far as these brave warriors are concerned.

But if successful wiping out corruption as in the rice farming and everything else, they have to come up with a new industry.

She is Panita Shinawatra, so she could be.

The Shinawatra is so yesterday. It is now the era of the Ocha. They give new meaning to cronyism, nepotism and populism and can do wrong. Salute the new master.

Oh I see now. It's "50 new positions at the Prime Minister’s Office for officials accused of corruption or under investigation" to investigate officials that are accused, not 50 out of those being investigated. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

from the article:

how did that happen? this has to be complicated.

I vaguely remember her writing some article a couple of years back saying how nice it was working for "auntie Poo" who'd given her some marketing oriented position.

Looks like her mom too.

Just ask yourself how many have and you have the answer.

Everyone is now involved in rice under the junta, hospitals and the police to name a couple.

"The order also authorises the prime minister to decide the appointments and whether affected officials would be returned to their original posts."

So no judicial process.

What will happens with the "freed" positions?  Let me guess, new appointments by the Junta? :)

He is stealing a page out of Mr. Xi's playbook. Also you can make the corruption search a selective process to deal with your enemies. I see one member of the Shin clan has already been named.
