Swimming pools open to Public around Chiang Mai ?

Recommended Posts

Some months ago I posed the above same question and had some good replies. I can't find the notes I made, nor the original post on TV/CM.
I remember the one at 700 year stadium and one @ Chiang Mai Orchid Hotel..., oh and The Amora Hotel.., but recall there was another (it's name slips my mind right now) that was recommended by a couple of people ?
We're looking for somewhere with some shaded seating options possibly with a cafe..., and we understand there will likely be an entry charge  ?
Can anyone make some suggestions ?

Thanks..., we are outside moat but close to Jang Sri Poom corner..., but we have a vehicle(and prepared to use it)..., but sometimes it's just too easy to catch a red truck,

If you don't mind the drive out to Mae Rim, there's a nice Olympic size pool with a kiddy pool at the Imperial Sports club. Usually not very crowded. Chairs, tables, lounges some shady areas. Something like 70 or 80 baht for adults.

Imperial Hotel

Also Chiang Mai Land tennis club has a nice pool.

The Centre of the Universe has a nice, clean saltwater pool. The facilities around it have definitely seen better days though. Admission and/or membership is quite pricy, considering (THB 120 for 90 minutes, 200 for full day).

The 700 year pool is a bargain, but of course it lacks the pool chain and umbrellas. 60 Baht per visit (all day) or 750 for an all year membership to the whole sports complex (plus 30 per pool visit).

There is also a public pool at a military base around here, but I have yet to locate it. I hear the facilities are really good.

Incorrect! It's 200 Baht for full day. Just spoke to the manager.

CMU has a 50 meter pool.  300 per year and 30 per visit...morning and afternoon hours....great separate diving area..except the traction strips on the high dive came off and were never replaced.  Platform is nice.  There is always BWT...

There's a public pool in the Chinese business association complex along Thunghotel Road. I remember many years ago visiting one that was located off one of the sois along Chiang Mai Land.

If there is any shade there, I've never seen it. No umbrellas. They used to do lunch but not anymore. There is a breakfast for hotel guests and room service only. You can buy water and beer (100 Baht per bottle I think).

We used to go there, but the last couple of times we went there were as many as 70 kids in the pool. Could not swim a single lap it was so crowded.

There may be 2 of them...

I've been there about 60 times. Fine for me, but not what the OP is looking for.

..., although we are not afraid of compromise. Sometimes just getting the head in amongst the under the briney(or a reasonable approximation) is enough :wai:
Feeling a bit out of place away from a clean ocean with some passion(wind and waves).

Can vaguely remember the last time I had a surf in the Pacific Ocean, was back in Oz about 12 years ago.People who have never body surfed wouldn't know the feeling but its a fantasic mind clearing, exhillerating experince. The ocean temp  here is like a bowl of warm soup and definately no waves. Anybody who likes to create a wave machine complex in CM will clean up big time.

Yes, too true..., there's a sort of wussy family friendly one I understand in KL..., meanwhile the technology is improving in leaps and bound and too many time US world champ surfer Whatshisface Slater has financed the development a pretty good version of a wave pool. said to maybe..., just maybe, making an appearance at the next Olympic Games with surfing as a demonstration sport..., unless I've got that all rrrs about..., again.
I'm imagining in my little mind's eye, there one day being a wave pool in many large inland regional centres..., even in Thailand....., but then most Thais seem to be a bit afraid of moving water...., unless it's falling out of a water bottle into their mouths.

200 baht for a day! They should give you a week pass for that price.

my boys want to go but I am concerned it might be a bit cold in Dec.  Any of them heated or warmer than others? guessing the smaller more shallow ones in the sun would be the way forward.
