How can tyres inflated with nitrogen run cooler than tyres inflated with air in the same circumstances?  Heat produced in the tyre is a result of the work the tyres do, nothing to do with what's inside them.

His 'rant' is nothing to do with just the expense in Australia, it's about the fact that it's a scam wherever it is found, regardless of the price.  Nitrogen doesn't help, measurably, in any way for road cars so it's not needed, that's a scam.  If you want to use it do so.

For the same wheel, in the exact same condition, with the same minute leaks, it is impossible for nitrogen filled tyres to measurably hold pressure better than air, how could it be possible?  If air can leak out of your tyres then so can nitrogen.

Any effects are minimal.  If all N2 then there will be a little less H2O.  H2O will make the air a bit more heat conductive but barely measurable given the relative concentrations and partial pressures.  air is mostly N2 unless you somehow filled up your tires on the most humid of days.  Generally a little less moisture in the air is better for the metal rims but the outside part will be exposed to air and ambient moisture so I doubt you will notice much. having said that, I have seen tires literally get some standing water as over the years water condensed inside them, and if slow leaks the person keeps filling up the tires with moist humid air.  But this was with crap tires and rims and hot and cold weather like we have up in the northeast USA.    So it is possible to get the insides very wet and that isn't a good idea.  Given the relatively high temperatures in Thailand, freezing of any moisture in the tires won't be much of an issue.

That's been my point all along.

Water vapor in modest humidity ranges and pressures and temperatures acts like a perfect gas and tire pressure changes due to external temperature changes will be about the same whether the tire is full of N2 or full of regular air with a mix of N2, O2 and H20.

Here is an interesting web site discussing the density of moist humid air.  the chart may surprise you.

Normally these Electric Tire Temp gauge tend to register 40 - 50 c too low.  Which makes them a total waste of money.

Sorry for the late reply have been signed out for a few weeks (Bloody adverts)

Don't know where you get that from how can they register 40/50c below that would make them show in the minus league.

My one works perfectly well shows what the temp: (same as the out side temp:) is prior top moving off. Then up to 40c something after a run.

The pressure also goes up buy a few pounds shows that as well all confirmed by putting a gauge on same.

DELETED

N/B cost for fitting same was free just one of the extras I obtained when I bought the lump:

The last full set of tires I bough were inflated with nitrogen. Pressure checks and top ups were free. Since I didn't see fit to drive fifty kilometers to get the pressure checked, I checked the pressures myself and topped up with my air compressor. If there was any difference between nitrogen and air, It wasn't noticeable. If I lived within a reasonable distance of the tire dealer, I would have used his free service.
