Shipping goods to Thailand

Recommended Posts

My family and I are looking to spend six months to one year in Thailand.  I am a Kiwi passport holder, my wife is Japanese, our daughter has both.  We are planning to have a baby in May, in Thailand.

Arriving in late March of 2017, we wish to ship our belongings to us in Thailand, though neither of us will have a work permit, though we understand we can get 6 month or 1 year, multiple entry visas by showing a minimum of $7000.00 US each in our bank accounts. No issues there.

We would be shipping clothing, books, artwork, two pieces of furniture (wood desk, dresser, small wood stool), no white goods, no electronics, tv's, or stuff like that.

What can we do about shipping to Thailand but not get taken to the cleaners by customs/duty?  Any suggestions?
