Hi All,

I am in Koh Samui for the next 10 days and am running low on my prescribed medication I usually get prescribed from my doctor/hospital in isaan, usually it costs me 900 bhat and that includes doctor consultation.... it is a med only a hospital can top me up with however I have made a mistake and left myself short so I will run out in 3 days, wondering where is a cheap hospital to go and get my meds topped up?

I once got stung in Hui Hin and went to a hospital and the bill came in at over 5000 bhat just for my usual medication (sao paulo hospital) so wanted to avoid getting stung again, I asked the hotel and they said there is only 2 hospitals here and both privrate and very expensive... just wondering if any of you guys can advise a cheap hospital to go to, even if it is government its fine as I have my medication prescription with my which my doctor normally gives me so will be easy...

On another note, my perants have come here from the UK to meet us ( my wife and son) and it has not stopped raining since they arrived, anyone know how long this is likely to go on for? after 5 days of showers its getting really dull here now along with the rip off prices, I have never been here you see and was told it is the place to be, feel bad for my folks if they do not get any rays at all before they leave! also whats the best/biggest night market? we are in car you see but the night market we tried was rubbish just a few indian shops selling knock off gear, sorry for all the questions, any recommendations on places to go and eat/drink? we have done most of the irish bars and what not but the bills have been silly, infact last night was 6000 bhat!

Cheers in advance

Whoops, seem to have found the government hospital here:

Sorry guys for not doing enough research, maybe an admin could delete this thread, although any answers on my other questions regarding the weather and good places to go would be great, thanks

There are four private hospitals in Chaweng, Bandon is cheapest.

The government hospital is in Nathon.

As for restaurants, check out the pinned thread at top of this section.

You don't say where you are staying on Samui, but Friday night in Fisherman's village they have a walking street with lots of stalls.

Not sure how busy it will be this Friday though. Might be a little early for the Christmas high season influx of tourists. Also dependant on the whether this rain stops.

I'm afraid Bandon is not that cheap anymore – believe that Thai International Hospital opposite Tesco-Lotus in Bo Phut is cheaper now...

Thanks guys,

I do not see the point in going to a privrate hospital given I am only going to top up on medication I have been on for sometime, it is usually in and out of the hospital in isaan within 20minutes no hassle... I would imagine these privrate hospitals here will try and milk you dry so I will go to the government one tomorow and report back to others who might be in the same situation in the future here.

Regarding places to go, we luckily got out of the floor area and to our nice hotel on the beach... we have taken a good wander around and found some nice places to eat and drink albeit tourist pricing but hey ho we are tourists atfter all.

Thanks for the information all.

Ended up at Bandon as the government hospital didn't have my meds, it was about as expensive as sau paulo in hua hin, total cost for 30 days worth of medication was 4900 baht, like I say in isaan its 900 bhat... pretty ridiculous really, it was 600 baht just to have my pulse checked which I didn't need and told them, also another 800 to speak to the doctor to which he said about 3 words and signed a paper... is everything in koh samui a rip off? I get that impression... I know private hospitals are out to make money but how they get away with ripping tourists off so much I don't know, lesson learnt I guess.. the hospital itself looked like a dirty old hotel, plus my wife said if it was a Thai person the bill may have been a lot less... I'd imagine even Bangkok international would not have even been that much, be warned anyway peeps bandon is not cheap, cheers

This is not exactly cheap either !  I got knocked off my M/C .  Against my wishes , Samui Rescue took me there. Nothing serious just a couple of cuts to clean up, they let me go the next morning after giving me the bill   Bht 26,000

Thanks for info – used them for retirement extension medical, which was 250 baht only – before Bandon was a cheap or fair priced hospital, but in the later years prices are upped, so one begin thinking about Bangkok-Samui...
