Read somewhere that electrolyte imbalance (among other things) causes GERD. Is this true or false?

Really the reason why have it sometimes.

Makro.  You can find a box of multiple sachets (8 baht a sachet).   Go to their 'pharmacy' section.  Use it all the time after a bike ride.

An electrolyte imbalance cannot cause GERD. GERD is caused by either excess pressure building up in the stomach an/or weakness of the lower esophageal sphincter or both.

Pressure can come from obesity, overeating, hiatal hernia, pregnancy.

Sphincter weakening can be due to ageing, caffeine intake, smoking, certain hormones and a number of medications.

Unless you are experiencing unusual fluid losses as in diarrhea or heavy sweating, no reason to think you need electrolyte replacement.

I'm recovering from a fairly significant bout of dysentery.  In the first 24 hours alone I lost 2.5kg, and over the next two days another kg.  How many of the Royal D packets would be recommended daily?  I drank two daily, but wondered if I should have done three.

The amount depends on the amount of fluid loss. Normally 2 along with some extra water would be fine.

The Royal D helps only with fluid and electrolyte loss. It will not stop weight loss due to lack of food absorption/intake and fever.

Some of your weight loss is just due to the GI tract being completely empty whereas it normally holds a few kg of food/fluids. That portion of the weight will come right back on after you are fully recovered.

I had a serious case of food poisoning and was down for 3 days, leaking everywhere. Literally could not be far from the lav for the first few days, so I truly sympathize.  I used 2 packet every day, despite the massive  fluid loss, taking small  fluid intakes after every  voiding. The problem for some is that if they have  underlying heart issues, or kidney disease, or even  advanced diabetes, is that they must consider  seeking immediate medical care which can require hospitalization with IV for 1-3 DAYS. I was close to  requiring IV as my blood pressure had dropped.
