Court sentences national sharpshooter Jakkrit’s wife and lawyer to death 

 

 

BANGKOK: -- The Minburi Provincial Court today sentenced "Mor Nim" or Dr Nithiwadee Phoocharoenyos, the wife of former national marksman Jakkrit "X" Panichpatikum, and a lawyer who hired the gunman, for the murder of the national athlete on October 19, 2013.

 

Mor Nim’s mother, Mrs Surang Duangjinda, who earlier confessed she alone collaborated with the lawyer to hire the gunman to kill her son-in-law, was acquitted of the charges by the court.

 

The hearing of the verdicts of  the murder case in 2013 saw all four suspects appeared at the court, except the gunman, Jirasak Klinklai, who is in prison. The four were earlier freed on bails.

 

The four appearing at the court are Surang, 74, Mor Nim, lawyer Santi Thongsem, 30, and motorcycle taxi rider Thawatchai Phetchoti, 35.

 

The court ruled the lawyer Santi, and Mor Nim guilty in the murder of Jakkrit and handed them death sentence.

 

The gunman Jirasak and the motorcycle taxi rider, Thawatchai, were given a life sentence for their crimes.

 

However Mor Nim’s mother was acquitted of the charge.

 

After the rulings, Mor Nim posted 500,000 baht and a land title deed valued at one million baht as bail for temporary release.

 

However the court told the convict to apply for bail with the Appeals Court after her lawyer said she would appeal the sentence.

 

Mor Nim was later escorted to prison pending appeal.

 

Mrs Surang earlier confessed during police inquiry to being the mastermind behind Jakkrit’s murder.

 

Surang told police that she hired a gunman to kill Jakkrit because she could not tolerate seeing her daughter abused by the sharp shooter for six years.

Death Sentence For Wife Of Slain Olympic Shooter

BANGKOK — The wife of professional shooter and star athlete Jakkrit “Ex” Panichpatikum was sentenced to die Monday for plotting her husband’s 2013 assassination.

 

In their verdict, Criminal Court judges said Jakkrit’s wife, physician Nitiwadee “Nim” Pucharoenyos, hired a middleman to pay a hitman to kill Jakkrit as he sat in his Porsche at a Bangkok intersection on Oct. 19, 2013. The court handed death sentences to both Nitiwadee and the middleman, while the gunman and his getaway driver were sentenced to life in prison.

Not her mother was sentenced to death but the wife (the daughter) who is much younger.

Death sentence- applying for bail on appeal. Are you kidding me? Who in their right mind will return? Go swim across to Laos or cross the mountains to Cambodia. 

 

Note she is appealing the SENTENCE not the verdict. Which means she accepts she is guilty of murder. Best case scenario she wins the appeal and  the sentence is reduced to life in prison.

 

So if the court grants her bail - thats amazing.

According to the newspaper report, Jakkrit’s death came as he was "embroiled in allegations of domestic violence. He once confessed to firing a handgun in anger at his home during a heated argument". He also spent a week in prison four months prior to his death for wife beating.

 

In the West. such extenuating circumstances would almost certainly mean a reduced sentence. But, of course, Thailand is a patriarchal, macho society where women are second-class citizens - and the husband was a "celebrity".  Say no more.

Have you not seen the winter olmpics were a sharp shooter cross country skis to each target before sking to next target. That takes some skill and athletics.

Think about the 5 policemen who were sentenced to death and were allowed bail so that they could intimidate the appeal witnesses, they have yet to return to court!

By all accounts he was good at his sport. Sometimes sports can be all consuming at the expense of other things relationships love etc. I never had the build and temperament for sports.

So I guess you have not heard about the three cops that were each given the death sentence for murder and were let out on bail...? Never heard another word about it......That was four years ago.

BANGKOK: -- THREE YEARS after the fatal shooting of former Olympic marksman Jakkrit Panichpatikum, his widow and an accomplice were sentenced to death yesterday for their part in the murder conspiracy.

 

Nithiwadee Phucharoenyos, a doctor widely known as Mor Nim, received a guilty verdict alongside three accomplices. 

 

Also convicted were Santi Thongsem, a lawyer who helped arrange the killing contract, Jeerasak Klinkhai, the gunman, and Tawatchai Phetchote, who followed Jakkrit on October 19, 2013 to inform Jeerasak of the victim’s exact location. 

 

Nithiwadee, now 40, and Santi were sentenced to death because the court found no grounds for leniency.

With an international arrest warrant around your neck i rather suspect that it wouldn't be long before she is arrested and sent back for a round of injections. Thailand hasn't executed anyone in a long time so she/they will probably get their sentence commuted to life.
