Yes, at times the lack of care and concern can be staggering.

Look at the supposed ' adult leadership ' of the scouts and guides that happily had them on an overloaded bus a few days ago.

Sure low wages for the drivers, but even forgetting personal cost, just how many drivers could they employ for the cost of recovering and repairing the bus...?

 

Probably enough to pay the drivers wages of a driver for a good few years - as the "extra" driver that should be used in this sort of situation...

The problem is that if someone complains and is "outraged" by this stupidity, they will likely face more punishment for "slander" than this @#$%$# will.

Isn't that just one side of the countless bus accidents? How about holding the companies responsible for pushing the drivers working double shifts without adequate rest hours?

Apparently these are inexpensive pieces of kit designed to stop drivers of commercial vehicles from being <deleted> driving too fast or too long. It would be shame if they were introduced here, the number of daily news stories like this would plummet.

Imagine tachographs getting used in this country, all it would take is some tea money to the BiB, and they would get torn up.

If I am reading the article correctly it was a BKK-CM-BKK trip all in one day/night.

 

Driver set out from Bangkok on Tuesday, arrived in Chiang Mai in the evening, then immediately started the return journey to Bangkok.

 

That must be around 18 hours round trip.

I've got a couple of in-laws who drive for a living....good, honest people.....they work brutally long hours, 12 to 18 hours, 6 days a week....and sometimes 7 days a week....and the wages are low.  Their wages are based on X-amount per trip or how many trips they can do in one day; the wages are not based on a set amount per month.   And there are so, so many people ready to take their job if they quit or complain....the drivers have no bargaining power with their employer.  In terms of labor laws protecting the drivers, they are weak to non-existent.

2 drivers is not the answer

They will sit together and talk, so neither will be rested

Give the driver a proper break and somewhere to sleep that's not a seat on the bus

Nothing to do with the government. I'm sure there are laws in the books already but passing laws is one thing, the task of enforcing them is the job of the police. Which is where :cheesy: comes in.....

Just keep off these tour buses in Thailand your just not safe at all if you need to travel drive yourself yet another driver falls asleep at the wheel this is the 2nd accident in a few days be safe keep off the buses.......you  have either speeding buses they lose control or falling asleep a lot just have no road sense at all

I really do wonder if the Government cares! Because they (through the RTP and other "agencies") do absolutely nothing, year in and year out.  C'mon Mr PM, show some action initiative to clean up the road toll for the benefit of your people.

 

Or are they too busy looking after themselves and their friends? :whistling:

There never is any public outcry because it's almost a daily occurrence, Thai population have had a lifetime of this news & have been thoroughly de-sensitised! 
Don't expect any changes soon!

If the Thai government wants to solve this problem they know they need to spend a lot of money and the private sector (that is the bus owner or transport company) also have to spend money or give drivers time off to attend the course, then who is going to drive.

I think they called it "Defensive Driving", this course will teach drivers how to driver properly. The government provides this course and the private sector needs to pay. Anyway payment of money is involved the government doesn't want to do it unless the big guy gets something out of it. The private sector even more reluctant they want more profit not spending money to train drivers, they don't really care if passengers live or die from what I see. Otherwise they would have got together and get the government to do something. They didn't did they?
