Taxi/Uber or car from CM to Pai for my family

Featured Replies

Hi all,

We , a family of 3 - will be travelling from Chiang Mai to Pai.

Would anyone recommend a good way to get to Pai and how much it should cost (not looking for a bus or something not comfortable for my wife and son).

Uber/Taxi/other option?

Thanks so much!

I've bused, driven, ridden and cycled there numerous times... with a family I would rent a car. Bearing in mind going by road will likey make your wife sick. If an extended stay and you didn't want to bus it, consider flying.

Rent a car.

I've actually tried looking for a car but seems like I've missed the boat. Avis, Hertz etc. - they are all fully booked for the date we want the car.

Do you think renting a car at a local agency is a safe choice?

I think they typically ask for a 5000 Baht deposit which makes me wonder if there is a high risk of not getting the deposit back.

Any thoughts? tips?

Forget those big names. Rent from a local shop. There are many and if you search the net you will see that most get very good reviews. I don't know about the deposit but you should not worry provided they are a reputable agency.

I go to North Wheels, near the Tha Pae Gate.  Never a problem even when i had no Thai drivers license. Passport copy, cash...that's it.  No BS at return.

North Wheels is a reputable local car rental firm. Give them a call.
