Surname for Child

I want my child to have my thai partners family name although currently her surname is not her family name.

 

She was previously married in japan and carries this japanese surname currently

 

So before I can marry her we need to go to Japan get document confirming divorce, get it translated in thai and then we can legally wed. 

 

Anyway my question is can we give the child the family name of my thai partner although none of the parents have this name currently?

 

Any helpful advice highly appreciated.
