thai thai Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 Is it feasable or practical to install optional shock absorbers on the rear end suspension of a 4-door Prerunner to soften the ride for more comfort on long-distance traveling...? This would be for without any load or cargo and few if any passengers. Has anybody done this...
undercover Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Might be worth trying some aftermarket shocks but be prepared for some aftermarket prices, I haven't tried it here but have done just that in Europe, without knowing of someone who has tried it Im afraid its going to be a bit hit an miss, Have you tried lowering tyre pressure in the rear ? it's worth a try, the problem is we are stuck with very old fasion leaf springs here, there great with 2/3 ton on them but an empty pickup is another story.
thai thai Posted December 12, 2006 Author Posted December 12, 2006 Thanks UC...doesn't seem to be a dificult instalation, however I just wanted to hear from somebody who has already done it.
jumbo Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Thanks UC...doesn't seem to be a dificult instalation, however I just wanted to hear from somebody who has already done it. I know a guy who did it and he said it didnot make any difference. Another guy I spoke to took out 1 or 2 springleaves and told me the ride was far more better I myself own a Vigo and I am getting shockbreakers in front and take out one springleafe from the back J
John 1 Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Put some after market shock on, easy to find about 9000bt for set of 4, it will make a difference.
jumbo Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 Put some after market shock on, easy to find about 9000bt for set of 4, it will make a difference. John do you think that is a better solution than mine?? it surely is cheaper J
jumbo Posted December 18, 2006 Posted December 18, 2006 This weekend I put 4 shockbrakers under the Vigo 4x4 which I can independantly adjust to comfort. I must say it makes a lot of difference and I still have all the springleaves under as well I wanted to take one out but the garage asked me to try this way first and it drives a lot smoother already Especially when you clear those nice bridges they have here in Thailand it definately is a nicer ride. J
thai thai Posted December 19, 2006 Author Posted December 19, 2006 Jumbo, what did it cost you (including instalation)...?
jumbo Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 Jumbo, what did it cost you (including instalation)...? 16.000 thb for adjustable shockbreakers, including installation They had more expensive as well, but the garage guy told me these would do well and he had them installed in his car as well and we testdrove in his car to show me the difference, that convinced me Brandname Precision J
