Never mind, I'm sure you can practice with your chords from time to time.

Ain't destroying anything -- it's about music and the guy in Post #1 "Let's hear about it" not "Let's talk about it".

The OP says that he played in one of Scotland's top bands for 25 years and yet he can't post or link to a video/audio of the band playing either with or without him. Kinda like Transam's singing -- you just have to take his word for it.

I do have a CD of the band, had a video of our one and only tv appearance, I lost it in my move to Thailand. Both myself and Transam are telling the truth. I did not play with that band for 25 years, I said the band had been going for 25 years, and there is only one original member left. They are still playing today. I played with them for 7 years.

My insane and violent East European alcoholic father insisted I play piano accordian.

I'm thinking of busking in Thailand with a dancing monkey on a chain if times get tough..

Don't forget the work permit, or you will be joining your monkey in the house.:cheesy:

So maybe a mod can change the topic heading to "Did you used to play any musical instrument?"

Not really, I do still play occasionally when I go to Pattaya with some mates, there are some good live bands in some of the bars, and they let musicians and singers go up and join them.

Where are the places in Pattaya ? Are there regular bars clubs etc where people meet up and play ?

I would be keen to meet up, bar or house etc (we have a bass player, it says so in his profile)

To the OP. Can you read music?

No, but I know all the keys of any instrument I play, also, if you hum a note to me, I would be able to tell you to within a tone, that's two frets on the same string on a guitar, or one white key on a piano, of what key you are humming.

Well here's to all the Country and (not so) Western folks in Scotland, Prague Czech Republic, Tokyo, Shanghai, and ...

I am not from Texas, not even America, but I am the next best thing, I have been to Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Fort Worth, if that counts.

Me the same, but have been to Nashville and Graceland's which were a blast... b0212.gif

So have I, I have been to Graceland on two separate occasions, the first time about a year after Elvis died, before it became all commercialised. I saw Elvis's uncle Vester in the gatehouse beside the musical gates, the second time in the mid eighties, and was also in his planes on the other side of the road.

I was also in Nashville on these same occasions, I went to the Opry, and also got up to play bass and sing a couple of songs with a country and western band which was playing at a club I went to.

George Jones was from Texas ... but as Lyle Lovett put in the above

You say you're not from Texas

Man as if I couldn't tell.

I on several occasions in the late 1990's did a solo vibe routine for a few weeks at the open mic nights at the multitude of Austin, Texas coffee houses and bars. Tough crowd but it was fun and I was well received because -- even though singer-song writers from all over the country came there to try out their stuff -- nobody had ever seen anybody doing what I was doing.

Don't some of you guys ever get tired of talking about your musical exploits without giving anyone a chance hear what they might be?

Before doing that Austin TX thing I sent in a video of me playing solo vibe to a cable TV Jazz competition show and I was roundly panned the equivalent of being booed off the stage. That show repeated my video for a long time and I cringed every time I saw it and that's when I decided if I'm ever going to get good I'll have to work at it  whole lot harder than I had to that point.

It's not an easy instrument to play well and that's one reason you don't see many doing it outside of jazz and classical.

Having been present too many times when a small 'party' was winding down and someone started playing the guitar whilst the others sat down in a circle around them - I've a bit of a 'tick' now about this sort of thing....

Those times are good fun...

Not for many (most?) of the poor sods who feel obliged to sit down and join in the 'fun'.....

A 'jam' session is fair enough as those not involved can easily go home without being obviously rude - its far more difficult to leave (without being obviously rude) when one guy decides to play the guitar and, obviously at the time, everyone knew they loved music so had to sit down and enjoy the performance :saai:.

As I say, I've been in that situation too often.

I've no doubt that all those involved thoroughly enjoyed it - not so convinced that the audience (apart from wanabe guitar players) enjoyed it edit - for very long, once they'd got over the novelty factor....

It's maybe how some people feel when they're enjoying the music at some club and then some guy from the audience gets up on the stage to sit in with the band.

I was at the bar at the Gulf Hotel in Abu Dhabi some years ago and a fat guy inna dirty t -  shirt got up, strapped on a Gibson and whaled on 'thrill is gone' with the house band and burned the place down...

I talked to him later and he useta be a professional musician but went to work on the oil rigs cause the money was better...
