webfact
Simple as that - how drug suspect used a small bit of wire to escape from police jail Picture: Thairath BANGKOK: -- A drug and theft suspect used a small piece of wire to escape from a police cell in Phangnga on Tuesday. The escape has prompted a security review of all police cells nationwide to stop such a simple escape happening again. The suspect who escaped from Takua Pa police station was rounded up yesterday after embarrassed police conducted a manhunt. Panom Sirikun, 36, being held previously on drug and theft charges, was found sleeping in a ten wheel truck in a palm plantation, reports Thairath. He was taken back to the police station where he reenacted how her escaped. He said he used a three inch piece of wire that he had hidden in his clothes when he was arrested. While a police guard was in the toilet he stretched his hand out of his cell and used the wire on the padlock. He said it took 30 minutes and while the cop was in the men's room he made good his escape. He said he learnt the technique from a cellmate he met in prison before. Following the escape the national police bureau acted quickly to ensure there is no repeat. New pieces of metal will be installed in all police station cells nationwide so that it is impossible for detainees to stretch out their hands. Phuketboy
Why the hell did he show them how he did it? He should have simply said that the padlock wasn't locked properly. Then he could have planned his next escape properly and got away for good over a border somewhere. Stupid telling them and showing them how it was done. The runaway prisoner, named Panom Sirikul, 36, was recaptured yesterday, following which police made him demonstrate the lock-picking technique that reportedly took him less than 30 minutes to employ. Mr Panom, a suspect in a theft and drug case, was detained in the station prison cell and managed to pick the lock when police officers went on a toilet break. “We discovered that he disappeared from his cell about 5:30am.
