Coppell Wins Manager Of The Month Award

Reading Boss Steve Coppell has scooped the Barclays Manager of The Month award in the EPL for the SECOND time this season for November.

Coppell was his usual laid back self when he revealed that the award was a bit of a poisoned challice .

"Last time I won it we went on to loose our next 5 games in a row" !

"We even lost the first match in November"!

However since being awarded the trophy presumably for back to back wins against Tottenham, Charlton and Bolton, Reading have failed to win their last fisrt two matches in December, having lost at Newcastle and drawn at Watford.

"I would be happy to win it every other month" said Coppell, That would mean survival for us and thats all that interests me this season"

As a Reading Fan I am VERY PROUD of what Stevie C has achieved this season. If we win just 5 more games we should be safe...starting with Blackburn at home on Saturday :o

Fair do's mate. Enjoy. Not wanting to bust your bubble or anything, but my hunch is that he'll be found wanting in the all important second season. Believe me I know a bit about that one.

We have to GET a Second Season first,,,it is no surefire thing that we will stay up YET!

However I know things have gone wrong for you and I sympathise,,but Wigan are doing OK in their second term.

I sill feel that loosing Dean Aston for the season was Pards biggest blow...he was a revalation in the league for the second half of last season.....big blow.

It would be a foolish man who bets on Reading going down again this season. It would be a major suprise if they did go down.

They are. And that's very welcome too. However, Jewell has proved himself to be an excellent manager and astute as well. I for one scoffed at signing Heskey for £5 million, but he's proven to be a very good signing for them and having not a little part in this seasons relative success (a bit yo-yo compared to last season, but still respectable). But for most teams it's the second season that teams get sussed and their tactics and style of play is negated. It needs a very good manager from thereon in, if they're going to survive on not much spending power.

Naturally losing Dean Ashton was a major loss to us this season. But as pivotal as his role was that isn't the whole story. Pardew made some awful Summer signings, failed to strengthen the areas that were weak and has made some questionable team selections and substitutions. In fact it ould be said that he also did not assert himself enough on the clique within the squad and stuck to his favourites of last season when he shouldn't have. Reo-Coker, Konchesky and Ethrington spring immediately to mind.
