i just applied in vsf global Bangkok to renew my British passport 3 months before it expired, the new passport was returned to vsf global in bangkok for me to collect,  i was busy at the time so i collected it 1 month after it arrived, i noticed that the passport was dated from the day i applied and the 3 months were not added to the new passport which the uk passport office says it would do if applied earlier. i returned the passport to the uk to have it corrected and was told that although they made a mistake they cannot add the 3 moths to the new passport  because i never informed them of their mistake within 1 month of collecting the passport.

just a warning to others to collect and check for any mistake as soon as their passport arrives otherwise you will be made responsible and have to pay for the uk's incompetent staff.  

A pal of mines wife got a tourist visa to visit the UK, wasn't until they got to the airport that they realised they'd put the previous visas dates on the new one making it two years out of date. Embassy here wouldn't do a thing about it as it was aquired in the Phillipines and wouldn't even give them the Phillipines Embassy telephone number said go look it up on line.

Not the end of the world.

 

Clerical mistakes do happen and, whilst their response is disappointing, you were at fault for taking so long to collect - it obviously could have been a problem if had been 'stopped' for some reason that warranted presentation of your passport.

 

Sound advice to collect as soon as it is ready.
