A British businessman was shot dead in his Porsche at the parking lot of a sports club in Pattaya on Tuesday by lone gunman.

Police identified the victim as Tony Kenway, 39, who owns a website designing firm on Jomthien beach in Pattaya.

Police who later arrived at the crime scene in the parking lot of Sanit Sports Club in Tambon Pong, Banglamung district, found Mr Kenway dead behind the driving wheel of his Porsche Cayene GTS with one gunshot wound above his right eyebrow. One bullet spent shell and a cigarette were found near the luxurious car.

Witnesses told police that they saw the suspect, a plump man, wearing a white T-shirt covered by a black jacket and black exercise pants with a cap to conceal his face.

Shocking murder, feeling less safe here all the time.

RIP Mr. Kenbay and I hope your killers are brought to justice.

"Feeling less safe here all the time"?

Are farangs are being smoked day in, day out on the streets of Pattaya?

Are there snatch gangs roaming the streets looking for fat, rich farangs to kidnap for ransom?

Why would people stay here if that's the case?

Oh, hang on.......

Terry thanks for the heads up, have been here long enough thanks, I don't have any need to sleep with a dog, I prefer my wife. But if you're happy with your security arrangements, then fair play mate.

I don't wish to alarm you, but I do believe similar things happen in other countries.

Indeed..... however in most other countries you have a better chance of justice.

If you want a crime solved and justice......do not expect if from the Thai "police" and courts.

I do not feel unsafe at all anywhere in Thailand, If you have no business interests here and are not running anything illegal  there would be no reason for anything to happen. The number of foreigners murdered in this manner are very few. If there was any illegal activity the police already know about it. Regardless, may he RIP.

I don't but you do seem to have a problem of stating the obvious..  Out of curiosity, though, what would be your plan if I did have a problem with it?

I let u work that one out urself as u seem to think u know so much.

And for ur info it says nothing in the OP about illegal dodgy dealings.  So get ur facts right before giving sarcastic replies.

Unless you're involved with money lenders, drug dealers etc, why would you feel unsafe?

It has been known that Thai "shooters" aim is sometimes off-target, often firing off numerous rounds hitting the intended target as well as any unfortunate soul in the vicinity!
If the location is inside a "shady bar/club at night then ok, if in the street in broad daylight when the likes of us are about doing normal things then it poses a risk!

I hope the killer will be arrested soon and we all would know why they did it. I think probably he has been involved in some kind of crime else why should they just shoot him dead? May be he has been asked to give them some protection money and he didn't , as he was driving Porsche so may be he is a rich guy

What do you reckon the odds are against that happening?

He may have a legal business that is making money. There are many situations in Thailand where a business person is doing well but someone else in the same business is not or there is a disagreement between business owners over an issue that cannot be resolved.  Foreigners are tolerated as small business owners but you see very few get very wealthy in Thailand  and if they do their profile is very low and discreet. Being too successful in Thailand has its own risks.

'Website design' is a cover for just about any internet crime on the books (typically money laundering or avoiding taxes/charges). The killer (or his masters) will not be caught because he/they seem pretty confident about their 'protection' (e.g. the hit was decided pretty high up the line).

Quite good actually, ask the student girl in BKK recently who was caught in the crossfire, being shot in the elbow if I remember correctly.

Let's face it going about your normal business, walking around, you've more chance of being hit by a motorcycle driving on the pavement than getting in the middle of cross fire or caught by a stray bullet.

The boiler room "industry" is incredibly competitive.

Mr. Kenway was involved in it.

He would have had to upset someone pretty badly to be marked for sanction.

I'm told by someone with insider experience that there are several reasons a hit could be ordered.

Apparently, the most heinous crime you can commit against your colleagues is the theft or duplication of leads.

The next is the poaching of something called "loaders" and sales teams.

Boiler room people aren't known for their modesty or desire for a low profile.

The money is never enough - they always want more.

When his kids are grown up they will be able relive all of the happiness bestowed upon them by amazing Thailand.

Can you provide the link?

You would only be feeling less safe if your involved in criminal activity, this wasn't random, he obviously had been upsetting the wrong people, I'm sure honest law abiding individuals won't have any problems,

No reason to believe he did any dodgy things but his wife must be very ill informed or too well informed if he was into BR's.

From the news:

Kernway's wife Somporn, 32, told police her husband  had set up a company doing website design at Jomtien Beach. He lately had a business conflict with a shareholder, but she did not know if this was the motive for the murder.

55,she would say that wouldn't she. This must be a record forTVF,page 5 and no mention of wife being involved.

I think it is okay to move here if you have money, but seriously unwise to show it. Fine if you drive a modest car and house, the less people can see the better.

I dunno. Stroll by the Narcissus around 10:30, 11:00. You'll see some pretty spectacular cars. Or the Polo Club or the Royal Thai Sports Club, or ... If you're prudent, you can be very flashy without danger. On the other hand, rich people get murdered everywhere all the time, often by their relatives. Not anything peculiar to Thailand.
