BANGKOK: -- BARN swallows hovering over Silom Road in Bangkok were caught for random bird-flu checks this week.

Officials from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) captured some of the birds from Silom to check their health including tests for bird flu.

The birds were tagged before being let free again.

One wonders if this has any scientific value or reasoning behind it? Is there any evidence to support any theory that migratory swallows are linked to avian influenza in Thai poultry stocks?
