NACC disclosed assets of Prayut Cabinet

 

 

BANGKOK: -- The National Anti-Corruption Commission today revealed the assets and liabilities of the cabinet ministers of Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha taking office in December last year with PM's Office Minister ML Panadda Diskul being the richest minister.

 

According to the disclosure of the NACC, ML Panadda Diskul has 1.31 billion baht in assets with no liability.

 

The minister with lowest declared assets of 25.67 million baht is Justice Minister Suwaphan Tanyuvardhana.

 

Other ministers with declared assets and liabilities are

 

• PM’s Office Minister Ormsin Chivapruck, 68.43 million baht,
• PM’s Office Minister Suwit Maesincee, 73.4 million baht,
• Industry Minister Uttama Sawanayon, 207.5 million baht,
• Minister of Digital Economy and Society Pichet Durongkaveroj, 73.8 million baht,
• Transport Minister Phichit Akarathit, 149 million baht,
• Education Minister Thirakiat Charoensethasilp, 44 million baht,
• Science and Technology Minister Mrs Atchaka Sibunruang, 82 million baht,
• Commerce Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong 113 million baht,
• Agriculture Minister Ms Chutima Bunyapraphasara, 244 million baht,
• Deputy Foreign Minister Veerasak Futrakul, 186 million baht.

It pays to be a Minister  

I thought most of the ministers were army, if so it pays quite well to be in the armed forces.

Declared assets or actual assets?

Including overseas assets?

Including assets of wives/husbands?

Including immediate family cash assets?

Including capital assets in names of family members?

Including cash assets under the bed?

 

Like the old saying:                 Big or small, lies are lies.

An impressive lineup of Ministerial assets for sure, but I think my lineup would be more appropriate if the truth (about how they acquired those assets) was revealed:

 

 

In 2014 Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha had 128.6 million baht ($3.9 million) in assets.

Before his retirement at the end of September, the general received a 1.4 million baht ($43,000) annual salary as army chief. His assets include a Mercedes Benz S600L car, a BMW 740Li Series sedan, luxury watches, rings and several pistols.

Panadda tops Cabinet rich list

BANGKOK: -- DEPUTY education minister ML Panadda Diskul is the richest cabinet minister in the new Cabinet, according to declarations revealed by the National Anti-Corruption Commission yesterday.

 

Panadda came out on top with assets outvaluing liabilities by Bt1.3 billion. Most of his declared properties were in form of estates in inner Bangkok’s Nang Loeng, Dusit and Bang Sue districts.

 

Justice Minister Suwapan Tanyuvardhana declared the smallest fortune, having a net worth of less than Bt26 million in assets cleared of liabilities. Besides bank deposits and real estate, some members of the fourth Cabinet under Prayut Chan-o-cha’s administration also declared interesting assets such as antiques and Buddha amulets.

Not surprising as he mostly talks through his favorite ring.

All wealth acquired by them or their families above board, never accepting gifts or other miscellaneous payments. Ya Right!

If they have more than their salary can buy, they should have to explain where they got it from.

Sounds like these cabinet members have been taking investment lessons from Jatuporn who is famous for, among other things, saying "people like to give me things".

Active military receive both military and cabinet paychecks.

Prayut receives NCPO Chief paycheck and PM paycheck in addition to his military retirement.

Military officers may also receive supplemental monetary adjustments (differentiated from "salary") from state-owned and private enterprise as a member of the board of directors and/or "advisor."

Golly, assets worth over 90 times his final annual salary!

In addition, once placed in office many immediately employed their wives and other close family members as secretaries etc. In one reported case , one wife was discovered by the press to be holding several positions at once , each on a salary exceeding twenty thousand baht a month.

When the press wrote about the questionable ethics of this they were told not to make such a fuss.

 

And yet they winge about Thailands corruption rating getting worse.

So one of two:  You either have to be rich to get in or you get rich after getting in !

Yeah right! If life gets boring- risk it.

It's actually amazing that this sort of thing - even though I'm sure the figures are 'massaged' - is even made public.

 

Sort of a combination of looking like they are wealthy as this infers 'status', but not "unusually" wealthy.

Is it because it would affect the reputation of the nation and national security?

You are looking at it completely wrong. 

It's not about how much money you can make having a certain position. It's how much money you need to get into that position. 

It costs around 400k to enroll to sixth grade for a random kid in some finer schools in Thailand ... Now imagine how much you need to pay to become a minister?

To sum up what i'm trying to say: You need to be very wealthy and connected to be considered for these positions. So they probably had the wealth before they became ministers etc.

Interesting for who isn't on the list, one of whom desperately needs to be on the list, together with his brother.

I'm sure you're right, but it's an interesting thing that even if a pig is full, it'll still try to get it's snout in the trough, and push hungry pigs out of the way in it's rush to get food it doesn't need. It's in the pig's nature.

Yes, it's often believed that this nature is what leads them to these positions, this seemingly inherited greed... But according to this study: http://www.businessinsider.com/ted-talk-monopoly-makes-people-mean-2014-8 the wealth itself seems to trigger the entitlement and greed.

Ok. But when people invest, they usually expect a return on investment.

So much for the 'trickle-down' effect that's been the fraudulent mantra of the 1% and their supporters for decades.

It's a part of Thai culture that you have to know whose ass to kiss if you want to survive, and how to engineer situations in which you can do favours for which you are then owed. These are the important skill sets in Thai society.

 

Competence? Unimportant. Education? Unimportant. Who owes you a favour and whose ass you can kiss, these are the important things and they trump everything else.
