Any non-gasohol gasoline on Samui?

Featured Replies

Every chainsaw or weed wacker tool I've bought here has English instructions (no Thai except for Makita products) says to NOT use gasahol.

My repair guy says the same, that the gasahol destroys that rubbery tube creating pressure in the gas tank.

I can find no place that has non-gasahol gasoline. The color of the gas is no indication.

Thanks

They used to sell a 91-oktan gasoline, but I think that has ended. The 95 contain 10% ethanol to my knowledge. I checked on it, when I had my Chrysler Jeep, and all the pages I could find – including Jeep's – said, that up to a mix with 10% ethanol would not harm the rubber; it also said, that in US it was allowed to, and standard procedure, to mix ethanol into the gasoline without mention of it, think it was up to 10%, or perhaps 5% only.

Google says: "Generally speaking, regular unleaded gas in the U.S. contains no more than 10 percent ethanol (designated at pumps as E10). Beyond that ratio, engine modifications are required to keep exhaust pollution at acceptable levels."

And: "The ethanol content of most of the motor gasoline sold in the United Sates does not exceed 10% by volume."

You can find moire by searching with Google, a quick search game for example these results:
Understanding Effect of High Alcohol Content on Engines

–and:

Can ethanol damage your engine?

In cold areas, in "old time" one would need to mix ethanol in the car gasoline during the winter, as in my Scandinavian homeland, typically 1 liter ethanol to 20 liter gasoline; i.e. around 5 percent...

Just checked streetview of two PTT stations on Ko Samui (pictures from Sep 2015, Mae Nam, Chaweng).

Both show benzene/petrol without gasohol.

Easy to recognize by the far highest price on the board.

Black script on bright yellow background (can't find a good picture currently).

All major PTT have benzene/gasoline.

And likely there are other sources.

From the price list of yesterday:

(prices are for Bangkok, Samui will be significantly more expensive)

I have always used 95 gasoline (usually from PTT in Maenam) on both my mower and Honda weed whacker going on almost 8 years now, never had a problem.. machines still run on first or second pull!!

Also my motor bike too...

Thanks peeps. This has been very helpful. The local guy who fixes weed wackers said "no problem" using gasohol. I'm sure he also thinks used motor oil is great for chain saw chain oil. Seems the Thai way that if something works now, that's what's important. Run a 1500 watt saw off of 5 cheap extension cords connected together??? Hey, the saw blade turns doesn't it?

That's a good way to burn out or shorten the life of the motor! :whistling:

Pretty sure they sell it at the Shell Garage towards the end of the Chaweng part of the ring road.

No pure gosoline there.

The PTT station close to that one has it, the yellow pump.
