That is a great help and answers the ops question perfectly. NOT.

  • 67 if born after 01/57

  • Miserable bastards exactly - $6/month. Uninvited bigamist muslin immigrants with their multiple wives and multitudes of children and family related carers are earning a motza courtesy of welfare. Suck

Quite right about that.

It is time to end the discussion about pensions in Australian since that is not the subject of this topic. If you want to continue the the discussion post a topic in the  Home Country Forum .

No - but if you're an emergency case you wouldn't be able to fly from here to OZ.

No - you need to have lived in Australia during the working years (18-65).

Are you sure about that? I have an idea that even if you'd been on the dole for 35 years you would still be entitled to a full pension.

The Australian pension has nothing to do with your working life. It is based on the number of years you have lived in Australia. For all countries except NZ it is 35 years residency required. If you have only spent 30 years in Australia you will get 30/35s of the pension. In NZ the pension is based on your working life and unlike Australia you can work. The pension is simply added on to your total income for taxation.

There is legislation proposed to limit pension payments to 6 weeks overseas.  It is part of the "omnibus" bill that the government is pushing. I have no problem in limiting or forbidding travel to recipients on working age payments, but pensioners should be able to do as they wish. Possibly there could be improved proof of life procedures at al, but it frees up the government from other expenditure like health and probably reduces access to cut proce prescription medecines. Email your government MP.
