Prajinburi factory workers ask: "Why do the police set up a checkpoint on our payday?"

Workers at a chicken meat factory in Prajinburi asked a question they all knew the answer to yesterday.

Why do the local police set up a checkpoint by the factory when we have just been paid?

Locals in Nadee police precinct are fed up with being fleeced by cops relieving them of their hard earned wages.

So they posted images online and even managed to get some on the album page of the national police on Facebook.

There a picture had the embarrassing text for the force: "Are these police or highway robbers?"

They felt it was another question that did not need an answer.

Locals say that the cops wait in the undergrowth and jump out as vehicles pass by. And apparently they are not averse to trying to knock young motorcyclists who won't stop off their bikes with lumps of bamboo.

They called for the checkpoints to stop.

Easy to answer, because the police want a bigger pay day.

Also they know that is the only day that the workers are going to have money.

Thanks Einstein.

The question from the workers was rhetorical, not literal - I didnt have to tax my brain cells coming up with that

But the BiB has to tax grey matters...'cause still no answer forthcoming...

Police used to frequently set up a check point at the intersection going into the university near where I live. Eventually the students stopped stopping….. Eventually the police gave up on them as a source of revenue. Haven't seen them being disrespected there for a couple or three years now.

There is an upside to this story that most of us farangs seem to be over looking. Not many of us farangs work in said chicken factory, so its thais fleecing thais. Better them than us I suppose. But you just know that any of us driving past fully insured, taxed, licensed and helmet wearing, etc would be stopped for having inappropriate shopping in the basket or something.

Thai rak Thai ? No.   Shameful.   Shaking down hard working people who have to do a less than pleasant job.  Having to kill something for a living takes it toll on you.  These people are the last that should be hassled.  At least they have piped up.

Unbelievable,- some posters seem to be so brave to tarnish the squeaky clean image of the glorious, highly competent RTP here, while they serve and protect the population from overspending their meager wages.

Little sympathy if the people "fined" were not wearing helmets  or were riding uninsured vehicles.

Exactly my thoughts, legal fines are okay though the setup of the check point is a bit dubious.
Both sides not behave ideally, like simply not stopping but using bamboo to stop them is also dangerous.

Officials of all stripes are becoming more and more shameless with each passing day. They're unaccountable and untouchable, and they're going to milk these advantages for all they're worth until someone finally tells them that the party's over.

The organisation whose mission is to protect and serve the people has become the nation's largest predator - the peoples' enemy. Openly and without shame.

Yet the organisation's leaders continue to claim a "good reputation" and a need for respect.

How long before the humble, submissive masses finally shout "Enough!"?

But they are not being "fined" are they - you yourself acknowledge it.

They are being robbed, extorted, whatever, because the police know that on that day they will have money on them.

Eventually this sort of thing will lead to a revolt.

True, but what it should have led to a long time ago, even by 44, the removal of the never seen or heard national police chief and install a respected military man with the authority and the balls to remove many more senior and junior cops, permenantly and create a wave of change. And more...
